Yes and no, 2009 was pretty good for flight sims, only one or two were actually any good though (IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey and H.AW.X. IMO).

Why pass on their new IP's, especially when they are developed externally? If anything, pass on Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, etc but by passing on newer titles, IP's, etc you are sending only one message. More Call of Duty and Guitar Hero, less new stuff.

Gaijin is a small studio but they made some very impressive titles, IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey was a great game, it was great graphically and is perhaps the most realistic dog fight game on the market. The casual settings were also great to.

Arg, 3D Realms DID NOT shut down, they simply laid off their development team. The fact that 3D Realms ported and published Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project on XBLA should be telling enough.

It might not be the same 3D Realms, but it's better than having all their IP's scattered in the wind to who knows how many different places. Here's hoping MP is selling well enough for them to get back. That or George won enough at the Poker table to do something! :D

It seems to have done better in Europe looking at Chart Track numbers alone, I wonder when we'll get some real data in terms of sales figures world wide.

So you're saying developers should just abandon the universes they create and instead just focus on new IP's?

I don't buy this new IP theory either, developers can make titles with new ideas and concepts in existing universes too.

Where's your proof that it was the 360 that stopped the open world game from happening and not simply Remedy wanting to take a different approach to the title (which is what they have publicly stated, long before the game went 360 exclusive).

Also, you do realize there are very big and complex (on a technical level) open world games on both the Xbox 360 and PC...right?

Seems to be just control schemes from what he is saying.

Would be funny if it was like how multiplatform games in the 80s/early 90s would have different bonus levels across each platform. If one had superior sound the other would have more content, etc. Made choosing the "superior" version so much harder!

RPG fans don't want to sit through an engaging storyline with tons of dialog?

Have I been playing them wrong all this time?

The flashlight is not your weapon, light and guns are, try playing the game next time.

5 years actually.

And I highly doubt Microsoft gave them a deadline since they had 5 years of development time already!

Have you even played the game? Remedy has said on various instances that the game went closed due to story telling reasons, it was even "closed" before the game went 360 exclusive.

The game is memorable largely due to the way Remedy has everything structured, if it was open world it most likely wouldn't have that luster.

The day Microsoft releases a game on Steam is the day hell freezes over, they do have their own marketplace to sell PC games after all.

There is free DLC available, all of the packs come with a sample that basically demos the full pack so you basically get some cars, modes, etc for free.

captain-obvious: The game has been out for almost a year now, if all of this DLC was supposed to be on the disc the game would never come out.

Games usually have a sell target that developers need to meet. The Forza series traditionally has sold around 3 million units (not sure what the current one is at) while Gran Turismo has been around 10 million units. One has the foundation to license out all of these cars and make a profit with the disc while the other is more iffy o...

What does compression have to do with frames per second? IIRC the textures in most games are uncompressed by the system during load screens or on the fly before they are needed.

Even if you rent a sports game its not like they won't be making money off your purchase, most games use dynamic in-game advertising now in arenas and stuff don't they? So if you rent a game from Blockbuster for a week and play hours on end for that entire week you are still contributing *something* over nothing for revenue.

Unless Sony specifically asked for it I don't see why they would. The RAGE engine itself has been very flexible, from large open world environments to Ping Pong tables and racing games.

I think they will optimize the engine though since it seems RDR was running the same engine build as GTA IV did.

Looking forward to both RAGE and LA Noire though. Anyone else remember the exclusive GTA Sony signed with Rockstar a few years ago? What if Agent is just a ...

I've only played the trial but a 3 seems far too low, the value you get in the game alone for $15 is far better than games like Battlefield 1943 which seems to have been abandoned despite moving over 1 million units in the first month or two of release.

Some of the complaints in the article are valid but others are not, who cares if there isn't much of a story, it's basically a multiplayer only title! You can't spawn camp very easily either since bases are g...

MK vs. DC sold over 2 million copies and is one of the most successful Mortal Kombat games released on a financial standpoint. The Dark Knight made Batman "cool again" for the masses and Warner Brothers helped out with marketing so it was a smart decision to make the game at the time for Midway. MK games usually sell over 1 million units.

Regardless, this was being made by their San Diego studio not the Chicago one so I doubt the game had much of an impact.
