The sales lost to piracy are attempted to be recouped on other platforms or through legitimate sales. 1.5 million people may have bought StarCraft II, but how many pirated it? Just because a game sold more than it was pirated doesn't give it an automatic pass to show piracy is overblown on a system.
And how about games like Demigod which reviewed pretty well, had no DRM, and was pirated like no tomorrow? The day after launch only 18, 000 people bought the game and over ...
The $50 million figure was speculation by Michael Patcher, it could be more or less. And the money itself acted as a loan of sorts IIRC.
Ubisoft has done this before, I believe they did it with a few Splinter Cell games as well where each platforms release would be weeks or months apart. I highly doubt anyone paid anyone, it's simply Ubisoft being Ubisoft.
Think of it like this, if Microsoft paid Ubisoft for exclusivity wouldn't they have picked a...
There are entire gaming conventions the size of E3 or Comic Con dedicated to retro gaming.
I think you are grossly underestimating the market for retro titles. These titles on Game Room are still cheaper than what it cost to play classic titles on XBLA before (400 MP).
The TrueSkill framework is pretty amazing in terms of how it works and the outcome it brings for the end user (finding more enjoyable multiplayer games).
Arg, why don't people understand! Not all members present at press conferences like those at E3 are from the press, other developers, employees, friends/family of employees, etc are also present.
Not saying everyone cheering isn't press since there are definitely some who probably are, but there is more to it.
Shadowrun for PC has actually been charting pretty well on the Games for Windows Live marketplace since it was released on the marketplace.
There are a lot of PC players on Shadowrun, not as many console players anymore. The community itself is small but still dedicated.
Shame Microsoft dropped all support for the game almost immediately.
The Call of Duty games are still quality releases, they are putting effort behind them when developing them. It's not like Call of Duty games get a $1 million budget and a 8 month development cycle. They get about two years and a multi million dollar budget.
I'm personally getting tired of the "Call of Duty" gameplay mechanic so I don't play them that much. There are plenty of other yearly franchises on the market that don't get the same push as Ca...
No,
Activision is claiming they were doing all of that stuff on company time which is what I said above, they have full right to say they can't when its happening on company time. Activision would be paying them for company time after all.
Further, depending on the type of contract that could exist between Activision and the IW guys, it may even forbid talking to competitors in such a way about projects. This is usually the case for jobs that need a ...
The kicker is the costumes would already be on the disc.
For panels like at E3, not everyone in the audience would be a journalist. Seats not taken by a journalist could be given to an employee, third party developer, friend/family member of an employee, etc.
That's not to say all journalists are "stone faced" though since I'm sure some do cheer at announcements.
For number 3 Activision claims West and Zampella were using office resources, time, etc to make a game for a company other than Activision. That's what the lawsuit is about, Activision had to have had a reasonable amount of evidence before going through with that since they also filed a lawsuit.
What happened after they left is pretty fuzzy, hopefully the lawsuit clears things up.
Easy, true PS3, 360, etc gamers buy from all genres if they like a game, fanboys only buy from genres that can help them when an internet war.
I'm a huge fan of the Tropico series so I can definitely get behind something like this.
They're going to be using a modified version of Unreal Engine 3

ZeniMax is really going in deep with these acquisitions.
gaffyh: Not sure where you heard that, Perry never worked for Sony. He has only worked at,
Virgin
Shiny/Interplay
Atari
Acclaim
And now Gaikai.
The singleplayer was ok but the multiplayer was really fun, 32 players, large maps, bots, different AI's, etc.
There was some great post release support for the game from Rare as well.
It's like we're back in the 80s/early 90s where each platform's port to make up for the differences in hardware had something different about it be it quality, extra content, easter eggs, etc.
Makes choosing the "go to" version to play in retrospect a lot harder! :P
Halo 1 was ported to the PC by Gearbox and Halo 2 was ported by an internal Microsoft studio, Hired Gun I think?
I really don't understand why I got disagrees, Ubisoft's Tom Clancy stuff has always had weird release dates.
