Realistically? 1.5-2x at the very most for a true console upgrade. That’s basically approaching 8x base 8th gen models and is a bigger leap than most generations see.
8-10 tflops is realistic, 10-12 is high balling imo. 16-24gb max as it’s not a pc and probably Ryzen or custom ryzen based cpu.
People that expect more are kidding themselves when you consider Horizon, GoW, etc run on sub 2tflop hardware and 6-8 would probably Native 4k those games with a...
It isn’t a pc, 64 is crazy talk. 32 is even a stretch. 16-24 max for ram imo.
I agree about the teraflops as 8 is lowballing but realistically probably closer to 10-12 at the highest end. 8-10 is probably more likely than 10-12 and 12+ is probably 0%.
I’d rather it be on higher end at launch as next gen consoles should hold their own for a good long while. Games like Horizon and GoW after all look incredible and run on sub 2tflop hardware just fine. ...
Awareness and luck make up 75% of any open area shooter, especially once you add a ton of players. Add in random equipment and that’s only more true for games like these.
Skill helps but it’s a ton of dumb luck and knowing basic mechanics still.
Maybe or a custom chip built on ryzen 1 design. Either way a big step up from what is in consoles now.
Not sure about mmo, but probably some sort of local coop option. A “Training Mode” for duels with a friend using your Pokémon could be a fun way to add multiplayer imo.
Or a more limited mmo design: city hubs could have other players in larger numbers and rarer out in the wild. Something like Destiny over a straight up mmo on the social front would be a nice compromise if they go that route. Too many players out in the wild would just be going overboard imo.
Nintendo games won or will win most GOTY Awards, Switch won or was a serious contender for “Best New Tech” Awards as well, and in a personal level brought better exclusives—especially first party wise.
I still want to play Persona 5 and Horizon was fantastic but it lacked the character of both Zelda and Odyssey to me. I can see arguments for both and think it was realistically really just a Nintendo-Sony race this year. Xbox had X which is cool tech too but more conventio...
Sub par Mass Effect and Bioware both, even if a first game from the particular studio as lead developer (was a support and now it’s closed).
I liked it but it was not as good as any other ME for sure and it needed a cleaner presentation for sure, on top of other issues. Better than DA2 as a comparison for franchise differential but still a more Inquisition level experience (more familiar but definitely not what made originals great). Will have it’s fans still but if you d...
I’m curious because now both he and even higher ups at MS have mentioned going big in the gaming market.
What does that really mean though? They’ve mentioned a probable streaming service “within 3 years” for example. Xbox games? PC? Both? It’s meant to use Azure now that it’s more financially feesible (compared to older internal test). How good is it designed to be?
More importantly though: what’s the plan for more traditional Xbox and PC? I know...
Actually it’s basically a Wii U when undocked, which was stronger than both the 360/PS3 but with almost no games showing its true potential. Docked it’s about halfway between that and launch One or a bit more (than half). So it can run some modern games but I wouldn’t expect too many ports unless they see heavy pc options (as settings on pc range a huge gambit—like Bethesda games have done).
Multiplat games, especially on pc, could be designed with it in mind much more of...
Very unlikely. Hitman got a lot of flack for it for example so don’t see them doing it again.
Instead I expect it to release in, at most, 6 months after reveal. Also expect it to be the first true “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider Game”. The first game was a prelude to her becoming who she is meant to be and the sequel was following dad’s footsteps. Shadow will probably be a more focused and experienced Tomb Raider seeking her own story.
I don’t care about the hardware sales number so much as games. Rumors though are One is reaching low to mid 30M which is a bit less than half of PS4 last I heard (closer to 1/2 than 1/3 anyways). Still respectable numbers imo. Beyond the 100M console dream (only attained by Sony and Nintendo) 50M has always been around a realistic “goal”. I think One will reach that before One sees true hardware refresh (PS5 equivalent of course with “exclusives” no longer on One). MS would love to reach...
I think they’re trying to find a UI that will be the basis for them next gen as well. Trying to find a “perfect fit” that mixes console and pc UI formfactors for a more unified system going forward. Sort of how Steam hasn’t changed “much” for years but still sees reorganization now and again.
I think they’re looking for that sort of basic design that can carry them on until technology changes much more drastically.
Probably Nintendo like a lot of Indies nowadays. Switch is a perfect Indie device imo and is one of its strengths.
I thought it looked good on my 4k tv while playing on the Switch demo.
Definitely not as nice as a Pro/X game nowadays but actually one of the better looking games on the switch since style and camera has that typical top down arpg vibe that is near timeless nowadays. This kind of game is the sort I really want on the Switch actually (and other systems)—I’d love diablo 3 for example and hope Blizzard ports it one day.
Demo runs fine on switch so will probably buy it on it because of portability and ease of local play as well. Just a cool game all around though.
Easily one of the more interesting games on it outside of first party games.
Well Xbox has better mod support than PS to begin with since Sony’s is locked out of original assets.
So Xbox users with an X can probably find even better mods eventually, but still less than PC (as pc has mods that change game on a greater level, some of which require mods that allow code changes to even work—enb Series for example won’t ever be console friendly).
So X could find a sort of middle ground for mods between best console and pc but never qui...
Played it third time through on the x (launch one, pc and now x for order ignore playthroughs).
Looks and plays great but has same issues as pc and Xbox really: shadows and “reflections” (or whatever some of the non-temporal effects are now and again) being slightly off now and again (not game breaking but a visual distraction in select parts of the game). Other than that it ran fine for me on X with no real complaint.
Pc is still tightest controls for ...
Asia often has the best looking mmos. It’s unfortunate more of them don’t get localized. West has largely went pseudo-MMOs with online focus and requirement but smaller scale player base (Destiny, Division, etc which have a lot of mmo elements but are by no means traditional mmos).
I’ve yet to be disappointed with the checkerboarding of any “4K” game on either the Pro or X. It still smooths out 90% of 1080p’s jaggies and other visual distractions which is why I really upgraded. Foliage and small details are super clean in motion compared to base model games in other words. Once you hit 1440p the benefits are much smaller than 1080p to 1440p.
Then it’s mostly size of the screen or closeness to it but image itself looks fantastic in motion.
Probably custom based on a first gen Ryzen for both. Maybe cooled similarly to the X as well? New ryzens supposedly shown soon though so 2-3 years might allow them instead of gen 1 if we’re lucky.
4k/60 ideally and as the gen progresses go checkerboard/60 as often as possible instead of dropping framerate. I don’t see 60fps being universal though no matter what but should be more common.
