@rhood: Those kids got what was coming to them... exposed to a new genre. They'll get over it and probably grow up a little from the experience...
...
...nah...
It's called voting with your wallet. If users buy this content that justifies it from a business standpoint.
Also, this is common place with all sorts of software. You pay for a particular service level. That way you extract the maximum profit from each of your market segments. You might call that "evil", but the only reason you go into business is to make money, not to benefit mandkind...
Why does it have to be one or the other, black or white, 1 or 0? If Killer Exclusive is 10 and Flop is 0, I would give it a 9: Awesome Exclusive. It's not the end-all-be-all FPS since there is no such thing as best when it comes to a genre as endlessly extensible as "first person shooter". But it is nowhere close to "flop" by any means.
It's definitely high on the list... a landmark in many respects, but it still has room to grow.
I find it telling that the Ps3 is "perfect" to their fans, up until right before an upgrade. Then the new features are what make it perfect.
If you look at MS vs Sony, no one is doomed. Both are doing great and the other side's fanboys really don't want to admit it.
If you look at the rest of the console war, we are all doomed if Nintendo turns the next generation of gamers into waggling casual zombies.
This war should be about hardcore vs casual, but the fanboys can't seem to recognize that and decide their friend is their enemy. Wake up people: Xbox and PS are the same side.
This is the wrong thing to be happening to XNA. Massage? Fireplaces? And this? It's a bunch of low-brow morons trying to make a quick buck. The platform is capable of so much more than this.
Ah, my daily visit to the open zone for my recommended daily allowance of Sony-branded snark...
Why is Microsoft being criticized for things they haven't even done yet... and probably will never do? Halo sucks because Microsoft MIGHT make a Halo Kart game at some unknown date in the future? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.
You know, the day Microsoft announces Halo Kart, I will jump on the bandwagon. Until then, the complainers have no legs to stand on whatsoever.
Halo is a military franchise. Shooters and strategy games make sense. Kart racing doesn't... ...
Forge is MC? You're kidding right. Please say /sarcasm so I know for sure.
Dude, why **** on a success like that? It was a success for me because I had fun playing it. It was a success because it opened up traditionally FPS playing frat boys to RTS. There are tons of reasons Halo Wars was an unqualified success.
You can already make "Halo Kart". It's call Halo 3, Forge, and Rocket Race. It's a racing game that is distinctly Halo and not kitschy like Mario Kart.
Culdcept Saga. It was like an everlasting jawbreaker of a game for me.
Geez people. The concerted effort to deflate Microsoft is staggering. I'm all for keeping expectations in a reasonable range, but the bullshit is just amazing.
Xbots are gamers too...
That's funny, because I download content with my free Sliver account...
Well, I don't actually, though I could if I was a obsessive compulsive tightwad worried about spending $50 a year.
Agreed. Here is an exercise: take every trademark you can find on a PS3 other than "Playstation 3" and you could probably do without it.
In terms of the PS3, it could be so much more by doing so much less...
"If Microsoft wasn't such an awful company."
...which means this article was written with the assumption that Microsoft is "evil", and therefore has no credibility.
Wake up from your Gates-bashing dreams. Microsoft has done wonderful things for computing. If Microsoft never existed... well, we don't know what would be different, but if you naturally assume it would be better, you need pull your head out of your ass and join us in the real world....
I agree LBP is incredibly confusing at first glance. Thank god for the tutorials.
We haven't gotten our hands on Kodu yet. We don't know how daunting the creation process will actually be. But I do have high expectations for what the toolset will enable.
I'm not trying to defend LBP or Kodu here. There are things you can do in one that you can't or is harder to do in the other. The keyword here is "different".
There is a huge difference between LBP and Kodu. But where they overlap is that they are both infinitely complex. What we as gamers need to recognize is that "impossible" games like this are being made. These game designs used to be a 12 year old wanna-be-designer scribbling on loose-leaf thinking they had the best idea "EVAR", but the current generation of hardware and software is enabling these complex, user-driven experiences in ways we only dreamed of.

Oh my god, a large corporation wants to make a profit above their costs. It must be evil... /sarcasm
At the same time, shame on the fanboys for playing armchair analysts. We should be more concerned with what benefits us as gamers, and we should ONLY be concerned with what benefits companies in as far as it benefits gamers. Who cares about the pissing contests? Both consoles are great, and both companies are doing a great job.
That said, it's great that Sony and ...
It won't be called Halo 4. I don't know why people insist on just tacking on the next number. The story at the end of Halo 3 had a very definitive ending, and if the Legendary bit at the end is any indication, it's the beginning of a whole new arc.
But people want to cheapen Halo by making it look like MS is milking it. Couldn't be farther from the truth. Halo Wars was a great game and Halo Kart isn't going to happen.
