Yes but that operates under a decidedly alternate timelines. This is pawned off as a genuine WWII "as it happened" game

Don't bother depicting history unless it's going to be true to life. Seriously, what is the point?

They outsourced it to guys who made the mobile GTA games, Grove Street Games.

I won't Google it because I don't want to preach/profess about knowledge as if I already knew this for sure -- BUT, doesn't "little green man" far predate the Ukrainian crisis as a colloquial term? I thought it was a term used to denote a generic soldier or "Cannon fodder".

Haha wasn't there a game on PS2 like that? It was called Toy Soldiers or something.

I think it's their obsession with aesthetic, everything is just so artistically done. Sound effects, music, UI, the photo-mode... It all has this lovely classy feeling.

Wow, I was sceptical about Polyphony hitting the March '22 release date but these promo videos have me feeling a lot more confident.

Hell, now I'm starting to wonder that they're actually priming us for a beta release in December or January.

On a side note, I hope Fanatec announce their new Gran Turismo wheels soon (they said they were working on something)!

This makes me so happy I opted for the PS5. I just hope Fanatec release their PS5 DD racing wheel soon, this NEEDS to be enjoyed on the proper gear.

Gaming feels like it's in the doldrums a bit creatively. There isn't really much in the way of truly "new" right now.

I'd be interested to read more about what people IN the industry have to say about this. Is it something to do with what they teach on game design courses? Is it publishing studios all being shareholder-dominated, soulless machines? Are we just in a creative rout because of the state of the world (I'm talking pre-Covid even)?

That's the real kicker with all this nonsense. The corporate types enforcing this stuff could not give a single shit about peoples' identity etc. It's so cynical.

This is so true, every time I break out the PS2 I'm blown away by how so many games just have nostalgia factor and that's it. It makes me pause for thought when I hark back to the "good old days" of gaming.

The PS2 GTAs is a classic example. It just doesn't hold up that well today -- anyone who has played them recently would agree.

I was replaying Gran Turismo 4 recently and I couldn't believe how different it felt...for all my ...

It's funny, I don't think GTA was necessarily "trying" to look cartooney back in the PS2-era... it was a convention of graphics limitations in open world games. But this to me is consciously putting them in a cartoon world.

This actually looks so much like all the fake trailers made over the years, to the point where I think R* was taking design cues off some of the more popular ones.

This one in particular (although it looks like full-blown CGI here): https://youtu.be/nyk1xKCVFZ...

I'm not saying CDPR should renege on their promise of delivering a next-gen version of this game (personally I felt outright scammed by Cyberpunk 2077), part of me thinks "don't even bother"... the game is SUCH a write off that there's no real point of doing a next-gen version because the fundamentals of the game are just a joke. So what if this turd looks a bit shinier and now has fancier rain effects? The quests stink, the characters suck, the driving is woeful, and ...

Ha I 100% thought I was going to read that someone complained on Twitter that saying "smashing" is offensive as it condones domestic abuse.

The phrase "they don't make em like they used to" is quite apparent at the minute.

I'm not sure about that. I like my PS5 but I will say Xbox's offering is quite competitive. And I'm outright jealous about the new Halo, the multiplayer looks brilliant.

Personally though...Gran Turismo 7 alone will hopefully make PS5 the correct choice. And I'm hoping for some new IPs, because Horizon: New Dawn isn't really my thing.

I don't get it, surely doing this would more money than just following trends?

so shoved down my throat I feel like I'm giving into the machine at this point

Yes - I'm shocked that people are liking it, I mean are we looking at 2 different games!? It's objectively a massive disappointment, even at a first glance. There is no way someone can have enjoyed BC 2, BF 4, BF 1 and then come out of this 2042 beta going "hell yeah!".

Then I realise that a lot of these guys on YouTube etc are CoD players and have no frame of reference when it comes to Battlefield. That's not me looking down my nose at them, I just th...
