I would love seeing Sony improving "ShareFactory" more. And more frequently. It's still a great tool, no doubt.
But I really believe building (and actually marketing) it out more as a top-notch, bonafied built-in software editing tool, could make "ShareFactory" become an even bigger sub synonym for the brand itself, dragging in new PS owners who like to create content. Creating content still is a huge market.
Sony could also think ...
I don't know.
It's maybe an unpopular opinion, but I think many people are way too over-demanding.
ND since the very first Uncharted produced nothing but GOTY games. Every time at or as the top in everything games can offer audiovisually.
When we had them, we played them and everything was fine. But as soon as we finished them we sought for their next announcement quickly.
We shouldn't do that anymore. Giv...
Definitely a success story of a game we haven't seen in quite a while. Huge!
PvP is great, but can get exhaustive fast.
PwP was very under-represented in the last years, but can be SO much more fun.
Even in Single-Player games like Death Stranding. It really gave the game a very nice and warm feeling of being part of a helping community, contrary to the threating world the game is taking place in. I am really looking forward on how...
So, Helldivers 2 right now also suprassed Starfield's highest ever player count by at least 100k? Even with capped server capacity?
Wow.
I wonder what Nintendo and Sony would be strategically thinking of to allow these 4 rumored Xbox games going to get released on their consoles.
Of course, there is some money in it. And it's probably going to open up some negotiation advantages for future deals?
And to be fair, though I am no lawyer, I can actually see some legal reasoning that wouldn't allow Sony to just deny Microsoft's wish to publish on Playstation. With all the buzz we sa...
"When I look at a game like Helldivers 2 — and it's a great game, kudos to the team shipping on PC and PlayStation — I'm not exactly sure who it helps in the industry by not being on Xbox."
Seriously - I just had to laugh out sooo loud.
Is Phil Spencer still in contact with reality?
It's the same guy talking who put every released IP so far, after they had bought it, exclusively on Xbox, even stripping existing co...
If you re-watch Mark Cerny's key adress in late 2020 of the Playstation's 5 hardware today, I think, especially regarding First Party games, it probably boils down to three things:
1. Getting the most out of the new hardware only by a complete re-framework of the engine. (If you re-watch it, it's insane how different and more powerful the hardware really is compared to PS4).
2. It takes time (to give players the quality they are used to get fr...
In the worldwide top 10 of the biggest companies that have always been a complete shitshow and cancer to healthy economic competition, innovation, protecting and advocating rights, and ecological balance, I can't decide wether I'd put Microsoft at sixth or seventh place. Or maybe even at fifth.
Looking forward to MS paying that 29bn dollars they've embezzled over a decade back to US tax payers next. This should ... have a little effect on their screwed reports ...
That's the truth.
For non-subscribers.
My take on it (subject to change):
Build a subscription service that includes a catalogue of classics and/or hits that have already been sold long enough to (over-)reach their the profit margins. Include demos, cloud gaming and, here and there, some suprises.
Finally re-arrange the over-priced structure of digital games distribution, go ahead and pionieer a system allowing players to re-sell digitally purchased games.
Keep physical game...
I guess sales above 1m in a month is a great number for any console. So congrats to all of them.
I didn't expect Americas/NA PS5 estimates to be higher than Europe's tbh.
In Europe the PS5 sold 600k less than the PS4 in the same month in 2016. Which is really suprising me.
Then again, 1.8m is a very strong number for the PS5.
Amazing to see though how the Switch is still going strong. 1.4m in the December of ...
The thing for me is Sony has always been so secretive about it's IPs they are cooking.
Which isn't a bad thing.
But you know that the quality they put into it will be great. And that the first trailer will get you stoked.
We are slowly but safely approaching the latter half of PS5's lifecycle.
Which means nothing but the devs will be able to push the PS5 even further. I truly believe we haven't fully w...
.
I've found 2 games in that list that were more specific about the release date "at some point in this year", and Ark 2 that had a specific one.
All other games? "Sometime in the near future".
We are in 2024 already.
I will pay my respect IF the games turn out to be good to great, sure.
But all I can see is that Microsoft has been demanding a lot of patience from its gaming community for years. ...
"Side note, if it's on pc it's not exclusive."
If you didn't ever own a gaming PC nor plan to get one either, and if you ever only played on a console, then a game that's being released exclusively for any console, fits the base line of "I can't get it on any other console".
In the independent area and market of home consoles, which has actually always existed independently of the PC, a game is console-exclusive, ev...
"but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate?"
I guess it's not.
But it has become a profitable business if you do so.
So no one would pay for only the framerate patched to being unlocked. So studios need to offer more than that.
But this would take more time, polishing and would cost more money. So they shy away, but won't unlock the framerate, either.
That...
Understandably formulated common thread, spot on.
I actually think about re-subscribing to PS Plus again after I had cancelled when the price hike happened.
Sony has been spending enormous sums of money developing and funding great games. They have given us nothing but Game of the Year material ever since.
Now, with MS buying up huge publishers, there probably are, as you mentioned, royalties worth hundreds of millions going to decrease...
Yes. I can imagine it's a pretty tough competition out there. Not just in quantity, but also creatively.
But I always loved reading news like "xxx sold 100k copies, earning the studio profits" recently.
In favor of Spencer, I agree on one thing written in this piece of opinion: "He seems a decent sort."
I can't explain why, because it's just the way it is, my personal natural gut feeling.
On the other hand, I also agree on everything else written there, especially this: "... you cannot disprove this industry’s oldest truth: great games sell consoles." And this combines 1st party games and exclusively dealt 3rd party titles. ...
