So what hardware sales have Microsoft been reporting then since 2020?
And you do know that Xbox' hardware revenue data does include not just consoles, but also accessoires, do you?
Their hardware revenue data may be accurate, but unclear in that regard that they don't split between consoles and accessoires.
Sony do separate it, for example.
Tell us, or link us to the last, by Microsoft officially provided hardware sales shipment data of the Series generation.
To shortcut it - there isn't any, either.
That's why your claim that it has sold more than 30M units worldwide is as allowed as mine that it hasn't.
«They did sell over 30 million consoles this gen.»
From all what we know, and certainly from what Microsoft don't want us to know, it's at least a probable claim that it still hasn't sold-through 30M units worldwide.
«Looking at what data the company chooses to report and omit is also quite telling.»
This and the following paragraphs have always been the most telling about Xbox' true health status.
And it, once again, triggers the hypothesis to imagine its true health by simply substracting
• a) Zenimax and ActivisionBlizzardKing's revenue
• b) revenue coming from Playstation releases
Without ABK alone, ...
«In an article discussing industry matters, telling people to not worry or want better information on the industry is antithesis to the whole point of it.»
Well.
That's it.
Case closed!
@varora
Thank you.
For over 10 years we've been in those quarterly discussions.
Yet Nintendo and Playstation are the only manufacturers that deliver numbers, that deliver proof, that give us numerical baselines to either brag about or compliment them.
The only fraction that's been pulling doooozens of doooozens, hundreds and thousands of word salad bribberish comments out of their Xbox'clestotitis fan clou...
Yes, since they don't get tired spewing out word salad 12 months a year.
"Biggest launch", "millions of players", "growth of", "here look our revenue", "We buy ABK", "We'll bring you 1st party every quarter", "Biggest this, biggest that", "We always wanted to share games with everyone", "We're growing", "biggest launch", "millions of players", ... you ge...
«partly offset by growth in Xbox Game Pass.»
I take it with a big grain of salt. They've been reporting nothing about GP, only words.
We still don't have any hardware numbers, no software units sold, no subscription numbers, no PC vs console GP, we don't have any profit numbers ... we literally have nothing but overall revenue and words.
You know what;
I really start assuming as well that Microsoft manipulate their Xbox numbers.
If the PS6 will be released in 2029, it honestly wouldn't bother me.
In fact, I'd be hopeful that an extended lifecycle of the PS5 could smack some sense back into parts of the industry, e.g. in optimizing engines and engineering effective code and algorithms, since this would only benefit games on PS6.
The PS5's hardware is a pretty sweet package, and looking at games like Spiderman 2, Burning Shores, Death Stranding 2 and even God of War or ...
I do, too. Still have it.
But my PS4 had its fair share of 10-12 years of participation and maximization.
I'd really love for my PS5 to get the same.
Chyna on the cover? Finally some recognition of her.
Will they let go of the old-gen already?
I'd propose that 2026 is probably the best year yet to go get into the PS5 gen.
Software lineup is packed, backlog is great, PSSR2 reportedly around the corner for the Pro, prices are still fairly "low" compared to what's expected to come.
If I hadn't upgraded to the Pro or even gotten into this gen already, I'd definitely would do it now - or at least look for current offers.
I am a bit hesitant to imagine X|S has even sold-through 438K worldwide.
In Europe and Japan/Asia Xbox is basically dead, maybe even more than estimates are indicating.
I don't know, 438K just doesn't feel right to me, but of course that's only a claim.
It's just such a clownshow that Microsoft stopped reporting any crucial numbers except Xbox revenues.
I really gotta say: the Switch 2 selling 16M units in 7 months, at least in perspective of the calendar year, is just huge.
Looking forward to what sales it will have achieved in its 1st full 12 months period.
• November + December 2025 total Holiday sales:
PS5: 3.504M + 3.382M = 6.886M
Switch 2: 1.819M + 3.813M = 5.632M
Switch: 385K + 781K = 1.166M
Xbox Series X|S: 226K + 438K = 664K
I highly doubt that this is certain.
I think it's more likely a constantly alternating race with Europe, with Europe possibly taking the lead in recent years.
Good!
Personally, I'd recommend everyone to go visit the YouTube channel 'Threat Interactive'.
(Edit: and of course in collab with other sources, too, but Threat Interactive potentially being one of them.)
And to form their own opinion as to wether or what parts of the current (=~5 years) state of game development is in good shape.
To which, spoiler alert, the channel's judgement is harsh, but I personally think is true, and u...
@Reaper
Nintendo and Sony do report shipment data. Every quarter.
And what you and a bunch of your comrades are doing for years now, but especially you (because I've never even heard that before), is to claim that Sony and Nintendo report false data.
Although the regarding Xbox, YOU do refer to their hardware revenue as being accurate.
So you're selectively choosing and picking.
And with tha...
