I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I would be very surprised if there wasn't a bigger showcase this year. Just because of Playstation's 30th birthday.
The only thing that makes me doubt is February, as it has been the time of a real Playstation Showcase several times.
However, unless Sony announces a shadow drop of a major title for this year, I think there would be some lack of appeal for a PS5 Pro.
Maybe, just mayb...
Edit:
I am actually making the assumption the S wasn't about offering customers a cheaper way to enjoy Microsoft's fruits (WHEN has Microsoft ever done that actually?).
But assuring the Xbox brand will actually move some hardware.
Without ABK and earlier aquisitions, Microsoft wouldn't have anything prepared 1st or 3rd party wise - with the exception of Forzas & a Halo.
So, yes, I am very sure (not 100...
@Quantic
If you don't buy/prefer PCs and are a console gamer since ever, some games ARE exclusive to ONE console.
This has actually always been one of the main driving forces people go buy either a Playstation, Nintendo or Xbox.
Technologically speaking (and looking at some proof of it actually), the S was a poor choice.
After 7 years of old-gen, MS shouldn't have provided the new dawn of game development a less powerful machine TIED with a strict parity clause.
I really don't know how anyone could argue with that.
This is almost like 'H³ will use shaders and sound effects'.
In my personal opinion (noone has to agree on) I perceive GaaS most of the time as "less(er)" effort in development.
To me personally, it's basic technology, basic gameplay elements, basic animations paired with a flashy presentation and odd and grind-heavy mechanics, monetization sitting behind.
That doesn't appeal to me and I wish publishers to stop it.
I really don't get it.
Why can Microsoft's policies put force on third parties business decisions?
I mean, of course I get it partially at some point: it's their consoles! Like "If you want to release it on Xbox, make it run on both!"
But why can't third parties reply: "Well, it's our game, our vision for a game, our business, our financials. If you want our game running on Xbox, we won't downgrade...
The Xbox brand needed IP revenue. The Xbox brand went and bought Zenimax and ABK.
Shut up and take my upvote, you silly! ;D
There is nothing wrong with the console market. It's still being forecasted to grow.
There's always been something wrong with the Xbox brand. At least since the 360.
Microsoft didn't invest in good enough reasons to buy the One and Series - and that's exclusively speaking about exclusive games and well received 2nd and 3rd party deals.
They've been sitting on huge amounts of money and didn't have a clue what to d...
And they again rather turn their bitterness towards PS.
Instead of criticising Microsoft for buying out their long-faught fights in all the forums around. Once Indiana was announced, every Xbox die-hard was fighting so fiercefully for Indiana definitely going to be "eXcLusIvE!!!11!!"
And MS just says to them: screw you! We'd always chose a $1 over you!
@Dragoon
All this rhetoric truly reminds me of Donald Trump's. And I am noticing this especially in the Xbox community from the die-hards and ultras.
Creating "facts", think up arguments, using negative words. And I am always sitting and wondering about why a person should act like this.
And, in the very loosest sense of the word 'proud' - how can so many Xbox Ultras be 'proud' of the fact written in histor...
Just in terms of possible announcements and things likely going to happen alone, the remaining months of 2024 shape up to be packed.
Gamescom is next, 30th anniversary of Playstation, a possible PS SoP/Showcase/PS5 Pro coming, Black Friday & Holiday season, VGAs, Microsoft sharing further information on their next hardware, etc.
The tradition of the last quarter of a year being quite a journey in the gaming industry is still something I enjoy alot and...
Excuse me, but that's incorrect.
The latest 'unit sales' Sony reported was 61.7m in their recent Q1 report.
At the end of PS4's aligned Q1, the PS4 was reported with 63.5m units sold.
And unless the PS5 didn't outsell PS4 by 1.8m units since July this year (which it didn't), this minor gap is still there.
I must have missed that official announcement that PS5 shipped more than PS4.
Does anyone have a link to that?
"You're fired! Look, we've only made $30bn profit this year, can't afford ya!
Oh and on your way out, please leave your IPs on the table over there. But you can take that ... what's it called ... oh yeah ... FiHi Push with ya!"
Xbox fan opinion:
"Man, they truly deserve some credit, so generous, so nice, wow."
Why the downvotes?
I sometimes really wished we as PS community would have a thicker skin compared to Xbox.
PS5 only 2.05m units behind PS4 globally.
I think there's still a chance of surpassing the PS4.
I am a (lucky) release adopter of the PS5. Always been a Playstationeer.
But I can't buy myself a thrilling gaming night from just Microsoft dropping balls.
I am absolutely positive that the PS5 generation will have an even greater second half-time lifecycle.
And I could even wait another full year without Playstation announcing anything.
But I can't buy myself a thrilling gaming night from Microsoft dropping ...
PS5 Pro with Bloodborne Remake/Remaster at launch and they would have another good argument.
