I gotta say:
I didn't expect these sales, especially not in Japan. I had assumed they'd be much, much lower over there.
Overall, it's going to be an interesting fiscal Q3 for Sony.
I am curious to see how big of an impact the Pro is going to have on the revenue and profit side from October to December.
Since even the disc drive was basically selling out as soon as the Pro was officially announced.
"It just takes tropes from other games and stories, and they made a good game"
Tell me the game that doesn't.
Thanks, mate!
And I absolutely do agree with you, too!
Looking at those Wukong sales, it definitely has to be a VERY good deal from Xbox to get Wukong day-one in GP.
There are only very, very few studios out there which every game they've released not just only became a critical and a commercial success.
But that are also followed by other studio veterans, press and the community watching their achievments in audiovisual game design.
And I think it's safe to say that Naughty Dog are right up that list. Maybe there is noone constantly at the #1 spot, it changes, which is good.
But wether you...
@darthv72
The Xbox brand today is only the result of 25 years of executing the brand the way they did.
I didn't say anything subjective with that.
But for the gamers themselves, there sure are many subjective reasons why the Xbox brand is nowhere near being as popular as Playstation.
I didn't say anything subjective here, neither.
And as far as I am concerned, and I am totally subjective now...
Sony aren't quite a stranger to all of that, are they.
I mean ... they build top of the industry TVs and cameras.
I assume PSSR on PS5 Pro is just a "light" version of what they are capable of doing, but at some point they just have to consider the costs of production.
PSSR is a great improvement already.
But I believe the PS6 will kick the ball out of the park.
In your link, Richard Leadbetter has a fair point here.
While the PS4 Pro did introduce checkerboard rendering, 60fps and 4K to some degree, I really find PS5 Pro's impact much more refined and well-thought out.
Sure, the PS5 Pro is logically much more powerful than PS4 Pro, but I also feel like it's doing its job much better for what it wants to be.
And bear in mind that this is only the beginning and early results.
...
How could I have known what you were truly talking about when you literally wrote:
"How about software sales? They must have reached an all time low"
Just now you've added the values:
• compared to 4-5 years ago
+
• in terms of first party
That's quite different, isn't it?
Software sales seem to be up 16% year-on-year in terms of units sold, from 66.6m up to 77.7m.
Gotta be honest: I was a bit worried about their Q2 results.
But this looks very good.
Hardware declining was expected. Hardware shipments are down 22.5% year-on-year.
Most likely the Pro will catch some of the decline in hardware revenue in their Q3. Q3 could become pretty big for Playstation.
Games, Network und Services being up 12% is great, too.
Playstation's operating income is up a whop...
It's all about freedom of choice.
So is the PS5 Pro a freedom of choice, the same as a 4090 or 5090 is and will also be freedom of choice, too.
The base PS5 won't suffer from the existence of its bigger sister.
And looking at it even economically;
PS5's hardware revenue is declining (as expected). A non-subsidized PS5 Pro will be able to catch some of it.
Hence the Pro is not just only a...
They've come a long way.
Although I've never been the biggest fan of GTA and kind of lost excitment for the series after San Andreas, they were then able to catch me with their Red Dead Redemption IP.
RDR was already great. But RDR2 put itself right into my personal top 15 games I've ever played, surrounded by names like Metal Gear Solid, The Last of Us or God of War. I love dramas and brilliant story-telling.
Kudos to T2, ...

Jeez. 8K.
I really, really hope the next generation of games on PS6 and Xbox Next just stick to 4K/60 - wether natively or upscaled through PSSR or 'XSSR'.
Or in other words:
Just let us have and enjoy one console generation with consistent 60fps. And don't chase dreams.
(Like Raytracing that brought PS5 and XS down to their knees.)
The first Xbox wasn't profitable by any means, the 360 wasn't, neither. And let us not talk about the One, please.
The Series is seemingly becoming somewhat profitable now, but only after they took over Zenimax and especially ABK. Just calculate their numbers without ABK and you'll see.
Why Xbox Division keeps making consoles? Go ask their parent. That's why they keep making consoles.
Or do you truly believe the Xbox Nex...
I am on the side that this merger should never have happened in the first place.
I am totally fine with the fact that it got finalized.
But if a 69bn merger did not got already forbidden, which one does then? Only When Microsoft, Disney and Comcast would merge?
I missed that a jury would decide - a jury consisting of a random selection of people from the industry, press and players, in the best case.
ABK had never bee...
Yep.
Although ... I assume Chinese developers don't have that high of a paycheck?
Competition is always good.
I think it's great timing for the market that new studios are being founded.
I am very much looking forward to all the sales data and quarter reports from October and ending at December, 31st.
Especially because it's mainly going to be Call of Duty, Stalker 2, Flight Sim and Indiana Jones at Xbox vs. PS5 Pro (& disc drives) at Playstation as revenue driving factors in the current financial quarter.
It could be that Xbox will finally overtake Playstation in the unique "Holiday Quarter".
But I be...
