If the author means: Hitting hard like a pillow fight after 3 valium and 6 beers, then yes- otherwise in the real world no
I see your point- and I hope you are right about more games coming- in the short term there are def games for me to play, although I bought the Wii U for my 8 year old son and there are not as many that he likes (or he has played thru them having more time to do so). But the variety is very low and at the rate they are producing games there won t be much at the end of the life span- My Son and I still play more Wii games on the Wii U than we do Wi U games- and there are, in comparison so ...
perceived software drought?? its pretty real- most of owning a wii u since launch has been a drought unless you are thrilled w platformers and little other game variety
Now if Nintendo would actually make some games for the Wii U we might have something
Wii U sales have been more than "just below" XB1
.... didn t you mean to bring up the Vita anyway. I own a Wii U (only home consol) I care what Nintneod does to get the Wii U up and running and off the ground-
If I am running last in a race I don t say to everyone "look at me, I m only behind the guy that is next to last by a little bit"
The problem I have is Nintendo used 3rd party games as a big selling point for the Wi U before the launch- They sold that aspect very hard, then after Dec 2012, they did nothing to save 3rd party support- the Wi U will probable go down as having the least 3rd party support of any Nintendo console by the end of its lifespan even though Iwata and Co said the opposite- but I have learned neither of them nor any Nintendo exec speaking publicly can be trusted
Do you think if Retro wanted to make Metroid but Nintendo " strongly suggested" Dk that we would hear that? No - what else are Nintendo and Retro going to say other than " We wanted to work on Dk!!!"
Will Nintendo invest the money for a proper 3d Metroid?
(For the Wii u)
With the exception of IP, neither MSFT or Nintendo would take on any part of the other even if given for free- The company cultures are way too different
If it was purely intellectual property then it might be a dif story
Prime157,
I don t know if it is quite as big but they def have a holiday seasonal sales surge in Japan - if you look at video game hardware and software sales in Japan from Nov thru Dec compared to the rest of the year it's clear they buy a lot during that time frame compared to non seasonal sales
If I remember correctly Iwata said as much as 80% of thier revenue globally could come from the Oct thru Dec quarter in a given year
Edit
Could be the best year in gaming, could be the worst year in gaming, or it could be someone were in between the best and worst(: in any event I am sure my keen assessment is %100 accurate
Additionally, The Wii U launched in November holiday shopping season and the PS4 is not- that will have some effect to the comparison- Wi U sales fell off a cliff after X-mas (and game delay announcements)
It will be interesting to see how long the PS4 will sell continue to sell out in Japan post launch
Nintendo has proved there is no reason to have expectations re thier effort and he wii u- yet they still disappoint w thier directs- The truth is they don t have much to offer the Wii u ( or enough anyway) so they have to tease out the few goods they have over a long time - But people have figured it out , sales are low - for the Wii u and future Nintendo consoles it will be a " show me don t tell me" situation
Nintendo as not been able to deliver a consistent flow of games for the Wii u like they I'd the 3ds
Also the Wii u library to date is heavily skewed to platformers so it is not nearly diverse as the 3 ds library either
Wii u game generally cost more and take more time as well - hopefully they will decide to invest in a more diverse library in the future but so far hey don t seem willing to invest the money
Wouldn't t it work better on the Wii u? Any idea why they made it or the 3 ds instead?
I hope like heck you are right - but so far Nintendo has not given any indication they will deliver - at the beginning of the Wii u s life span they over promised and under delivered - now they are barely even promising anything that was not mentioned a year+ back - they seemed primed now to under promise and still under deliver - They released a single vc game for the Wii u eshop yesterday which has been the trend - that is inexcusable for a console that is still starved for breadth n...
The Wii u is in real trouble not Nintendo - it's sales have been consistently bad since shortly after launch - ( once it became evident that there would be a software drought after launch) - the " heavy hitters that were supposed to come 2nd half of 2013 either did not show or were not big enough- then the " consistent and compelling titles that were supposed to start holiday 2013 and continue thru well into 2014 did not happen as we are in the early part of a software droug...
So perhaps the last game Nintendo ever releases for the Wii U (whatever it may be) could be the savior? If that s true then that game could be DKTF, or MK8 or Smash Bros, X, Zelda etc
However, the only one of those listed that we KNOW will be released this year is DKTF.
We do not know if any of the other games will release in 2014- Remember Nintendo is famous for huge game delays- Or perhaps they will decide to abandon the Wii U before those other games come out- ...
ElementalKnight:
your arguments sound petty and childish. Why cant you acknowledge the obvious? The Wii U has been a disaster since day 1 (I also was a day 1 buyer of the Wi U).
Your expectations of Nintendo must be incredibly low. Some of us think highly enough of Nintendo than to accept the poor effort they have given so far. Even they have acknowledged many of their failures relating to the Wii U to date.
The Wii U could be so much more than...
One key line re Iwatas health care/quality of life initiative is, they will get into/build that business over the next 10 YEARS! That is a hundred lifetimes for a publicly traded business or most any business- So this quality of life initiative is not a "fall back" because it will need to be funded for years to come via the gaming business and cash on hand-
IMO I think it is just an intentional distraction for the shareholders- When/if their gaming sales do well...
