that would have been awesome along w the Fire Emblem title from the Wii- they seem to be holding back the VC for the next console I guess
they have pretty much forgot about the virtual console for Wii u eshop - it started VERY slow at launch and is now finishing slow
that is prob good at this point as i doubt many backers will ever get the game or if they do it will be in name only- aka pure shovelware
people should be very very careful about giving money to ANY kickstarter type project
The double R and D spent was during the time frame going into the Wii u launch- so yes it would have included all R and D for Nintendo during that time - which ws to my point- they did not spend it all on the Wii U - but it was a relativly big number- i wonder how much of it went towards development of the NX
It looks like they spent over double on R and D going into the launch of the Wii U than they are going into the launch of the NX- I wonder if much of the R and D pre Wii U was actually being put toward the NX- I don t think Nintendo ever fully believed in the Wii u, they just could not get teh NX ot in time after dramatic drop off in Wii sales
I know which articles you have referenced- they all came from that same tweet that was not correct- none of these games journalist bothered to confirm the just kept repeating what oe guy said over and over-
Look in the investor Q and A of the same year and you will see Iwata very clearly sa that it cost more to make the wii u than they can sell it for-
Are they breaking even or making money on it today, i do not know- i have not seen anything in Nintendo s...
Roobot - you said "they made something like $6 billion" when someone "makes" x amount of money that is not revenue When a company "makes" a $billion that is profit or free cash flow or similar not revenue
any i believe they are expecting revenue of $5 billion for fiscal year end on March 31 2016
no they did not stop losing money on the wii u in 2014- look at Iwatas statement on that subject in the Investor Q and A that year-
they may or may not be making a profit on it now
no they did not make 6 billion- their REVENUE was 5 Billion- learn what revenue means-
They paid ALL of their profit plus some to pay their dividend as well
and 27 people agreed with your statement-
that many people don t know what revenue means?
Coachkeys- you may want to learn the definition of "revenue" before you make yourself look silly by commenting on it- Revenue is not profit- not even close- Nintendo has not added much if any to their billions in recent years- even the years they made a small profit recently did not add to their cash as they paid all their profits out and then some to pay their dividend
i would like to see it to- and i hope they don t release it on the NX before the Wii U
the game was delayed for strategic business reasons not because they could not get it ready much earlier
It does not appear most people commenting here actually read the article-
It does not source or mention the Nekkie article and the article (this one in N4G) is pretty accurate and well wrtten
Additionally the headline of this story is inaccurate- The rumor was not "debunked" as that means proven false- which is not possible at this time- the rumor was "denied" (kind of) by Nintendo- this is what happens too often in games journalism- fanboys write articles for the benefit of other fan boys sacrificing accuracy and objectivity
Nintendo s next "term" starts at the end of this month-
They did not really deny much- having said that, i don t know how long they will produce the Wii U- probably not too long after the NX is released- but either way- just because Nintendo says something in no way makes it true- Nintendo corp lies with the best of them
Gemol- you will not se Nintendo saying they make a profit in the Wii U- They may or may not be now but they never said they were- that was typica shoddy reporting that was repeated over and over-
Nintendo s annual revenue s have dropped every year since 2009+/- their market share is a fraction of what it once was
I agree they really missed out on a lot of the "Minecraft" generation- It is good they finally have it on the Wii U but 10 s of millions started playing Minecraft (many of them the young gamers that Nintendo used to dominate) on other consoles, pc s etc. several years back
they did not have much choice
In their recent earnings release and investor Q and A; their theme was to increase the number of female users and to recapture/increase the youth/family market share they have lost over the last few years
So they are very much saying they are targeting the youth market- does not mean they will target the youth exclusively but it is very high on their list if you believe what they are telling investors
asymmetric game play is something they had in Nintendoland, is something Miyamoto talked about, even hyped close to the Wii u launch and was def the innovation many of us hoped for from the game pad- But Nintendo gave up on the Wii U very early so the gamepad mostly became a nice feature more so than a way to innovate gameplay
I do like the gamepad as a feature- but as a tool for innovation it was never given a true effort
