Lol, still using that old tired argument are we? AMD has gotten better with their drivers for the past few years, your point is moot.

AMD's crossfire for the r9 290x is actually smoother and scales a lot better than NV's SLI.

AMD is hard at work too.

@ Rage

I've had both AMD and Nvidia machines myself. My current one is Nvidia. I've built two computers lately with AMD cards inside. I've had issues with AMD in the past I won't deny that. However, for the past couple of years I have not heard/had any issues with AMD. Nvidia's drivers however, created a huge bug in Windows 7 and it also screwed up my Linux OS as well. They're not shining in my experience.

How do you know AMD played al...

@ Rageanitus

1) You've got it wrong, more heat results from more power and/or a less efficient cooler. GPU temperatures have nothing to do with the PSU required.

2) This doesn't make any sense, AMD's most powerful GPU was always close to Nvidia's most powerful. Both companies even have their own dual GPU offerings, how is that not competitive?

3) Which explains their substantial $150 price drop without hesitation right?

Looking at the graphs, why do some results show the R9 290x consuming less or equal power to the titan? From all other tests on the other sites the R9 consumed more power. This doesn't make sense, unless whoever benchmarked these cards left the 290x on quiet mode. Oh and the gtx 780ti consumes a lot of power too.

Take these results with a grain of salt fellas.

Rocksteady didn't make this, Warner Brothers Games Montreal did.

@ vishmarx, obvious troll is obvious

I've installed many games on my pc and haven't had a crash that was consistent for a long time. It happens here and there, but it happens on consoles too.

This is the fault of devs, not the pc platform.

They most likely upped the production values to make the SP more exciting for people who want to learn the basics. Why in the heck would you spend $60 on this game for SP only. There are much better SP campaigns out there worth $60. The main focus of this game is MP.

4500d ago 0 agree1 disagreeView comment

I honestly think most of the reactions here are hilarious. BF games at the heart were always about MP. If you're really shelling out $60 for SP, then you're in way over your head. People should have learned by now that for all BF games, SP is not the main focus here, so why try to argue whether or not buying BF4 for SP is worth it?

I've also played BF:BC2 and while the SP was enjoyable, it was still kind of short. However, I didn't care because I clocked in so...

@ pork

I'll be honest, a GTX 780 at $500 is quite a deal, but the R9 290(non-X) is supposed to be equal to if not better than GTX 780. It's rumored to be sold at $450, so we'll see.

@ jeff

It only has 30W of more power than the Titan, how is that too much? Of course it's too hot, it's a reference card clocked at 1000Mhz, wait until the non-reference cards come out.

4500d ago 2 agree1 disagreeView comment

My my, what a big troll you are. It makes a lot of sense when you compare an aftermarket gtx 780 to a reference R9 290X (that can barely overclock further). Just wait until the non-reference R9 comes out, then it'll smoke the 780 like it does at stock.

Btw, consoles give an advantage to AMD because it'll be easier to port console games to AMD's Mantle (PC). Oh yeah, and the drivers for the new architecture hasn't quite matured yet.

4500d ago 1 agree4 disagreeView comment

Again, you're comparing a reference card (r9 290x) to a aftermarket card (gtx 780). The only reason why the R9 doesn't have enough headroom is because it has a stock heatsink. There's no point in OCing the card if it throttles at a certain temperature.

You say who buys a high end and not OC? I say to you, who buys something with a stock heatsink and OC's?

Better drivers? For the past 2 years my brother and a friend who have ATI cards have not ...

You do realize that only the R9 290x reference card is available right now right? They most likely used an aftermarket GTX 780 to get higher overclocks. Not only that, but the GTX 780 is still more expensive than the R9 290x.

Then you have to consider the fact that other websites show benchmarks where the R9 290x tops both GTX 780 and Titan or is equal to Titan. The linus video you're talking about only shows 1080p results, not higher resolutions.

For exa...

I just realized what Abriael said, nm.

I don't mind visuals being put down as long as I can get close to 60fps. Sometimes on certain games I don't mind 30fps

That's not even evidence, you just typed something to search in forums/answer websites. Besides, Capacitors most likely age faster the more you stress the power supply, such as full power 24/7. It all depends on how you use it.

I've seen computers that are over 10 years old that still have their original power supplies, and yes, still works. Doesn't seem like capacitor aging has that much of an effect like you think.

Not all R9 cards are rebrands. The R9 290/290X are based on new technology.

Well actually, I wouldn't be surprised if the increased percentage of PCs has a lot to do with gaming PCs and rendering machines.

I mean, Laptops and office desktops are becoming less popular due to the mobile market. Tablets are very convenient when you need to read documents and what not, and is much, much lighter to carry around than a laptop. Also, the UI on Android/iOS tablets make it much easier to use than laptops. You can even buy a keyboard to attach to your tabl...

Just want to ask, doesn't digital distribution also have an effect on publisher-developer relationships? It would seem to me that indie development wouldn't have become so popular if it also weren't for this method as well.

With the ability to download games today, it saves the indie devs resources to print out physical copies of their game and therefore, there is less need for a publisher to advertise their game (it just needs to be advertised on Steam or somethi...

Except that PS Plus digital distribution is not as popular as PC.

You have to pay a fee to use PS Plus while on PC every DD platform is free to download. There are always huge sales on PC, while on PS Plus, you get small discounts. While PS Plus has plenty of big games on there, it doesn't seem to have them all. On PC, you can get almost any game you can think of, even the very old games. There's just so much more you can do.

I'm sorry, but even ...

If that were true, don't you mean 29 million games at retail? You really don't know the power of digital distribution on PC, especially the Steam platform.

I have a friend who strictly played consoles for most of his life. About 5 months ago, he asked me to build a PC for him because he wanted to try it out. He still plays his consoles, but he's extremely happy with his gaming PC too.
