If you buy the game Day 1 (asssuming it's a new game) then you shouldn't have to pay for the EA pass.
I buy most of my games new anyways, and I was happy with BC2 since the DLC was free.
EDIT: Just read the thing about multiple users. Oh well, perhaps sharing the same account is a decent price for free DLC (assuming it is free for BF3 too)

The best case scenario painted by the article is that we'll be able to buy that DLC on or after release. That's not really fair. =/

Well, if you bring PC into the equation, then the unranked player-cap is 24 in BlackOps (or 26? something like that).
Though the maps aren't designed for anything beyond 30 players anyways.

EDIT: Yea, the expansion pack with the maps is available in almost all pre-orders.
They are exclusive.
There is no 'normal' way to obtain the type-88 LMG, the flechettes for Dao-12 and the flash supressor for SKS.
i.e You can't unlock those items just by leveling up with a regular copy of the game.
That's what the DLC announcement and Demize's twitter suggest.

As for being money hungry, the recent announcement of 'exclusive' retailer-specific pre-order bonuses kind of irked me.
Promoting pre-orders is fine, but giving items that can impact the balance of the game to a select few is not cool.
Especially when pre-orders already comes with the 'BackToKa...
I'm fine with CoD haters if they have an issue with the state of the current FPS market in general.
There's way too many military shooters and most of them aren't that innovative.
It's the ones that bash CoD then go on to praise another generic military-shooter that puzzle me.
I've seen comments about CoD being generic and how Battlefield3 is awesome, yet the only thing new I've seen in BF3's previews are fatal destruction...
I think there is some word-twisting going on there, and that the weapons themselves are just unlocked Day1 for those pre-orders, but can be unlocked by everyone else through leveling up.
Kind of like what BC2 and MoH had.

SteamStats are only good for games that use SteamWorks.
Also, SteamStats might give MW2 an edge right now since the game was recently on sale for 50% off (and is still on sale at different locations) so its population might have gotten a little boost from that.
Xfire paints a better picture for CoD4.. however CoD4 is mostly popular on PC because it is easy to pirate and runs well on a wide-range of PCs.

Demize also said that 'The Physical Warfare Pack is fully exclusive. There's no other way to get those 4 items.' when there's really only 3 exclusive items (the Dao-12 is a day 1 unlock)
