haha, very informative information.
Our stuff works better!!
Why?
Because I said so, that's why!
lol
A few smaller games on PSN like Flower (which is a weird little trippy thing, that you can only loosly decribe as a game) uses the sixaxis very well. But most of the time in games I have played that uses it are poorly programmed & and has pretty crappy response imo. Fortunately these games barely use it, and give you the option to use the sticks instead, so I always choose not to. Flower is the only game I have ever used it on.
The only way I see motion control being cool on a shooting game is if you have some kind of gun peripheral, like some of those old arcade shooting games did. You don't wanna be holding out your index finger making a pretend gun with your hand when playing a game like this.
lowcarb - good point on the vibration controllers. Keyboard & mouse is really the most deadly in a FPS with a skilled player, but it is hella fun playing shooting games that have the vibration controllers programmed well. You can feel the machine gun kicking in your hand, which gives you a really immersive feeling in the game.
I always like controlling a FPS with a keyboard & mouse, because I was PC gamer for years. But I got this beautiful Panasonic plasma 1080P HDTV, a PS3, surround sound, and comfy couch in my living room - and play with the controller. Poor man? Not at all, haha.
A game not about killing people or monsters? That is a rare concept.
I like it. I would play a game as Superman saving people (and fighting bad guys of course) if they made a quality game like that. I always prefer being the hero in game over a psycho like characters in GTA or Saints Row (but still like those games too though).
The tough truth is, backwards compatability is not really doable on a PS3 that they now sell for $299. I have seen a very interesting tech article from a software guru explaining how a simple firmware update aint gonna cut it on the current PS3 model to allow for BC. A lot of it was very much over my head, but I got the general gist of what he was saying.
And Sony knows from personal experience now that $299 seems to be the line many consumers won't cross in buying a game conso...
I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I like the motion sensing technology, but don't like the idea of pantomime - body movement only without using an object. For example, driving games need an input device, so you have a a relatavive feel on how much input to use to turn. For a shooting game, holding my hand like I am pretending to have a gun would feel silly. Like the Wii, boxing, or athletic simulations would work well, but not my cup of tea. It will be interesting to see what software ...
yeah, I guess that is the bottom line. If the fun factor is there, it don;t matter how many sequels they do. I for one love FPS games, so it doesn't even have to be a revolutionary new kind of thing for it to be totally fun, and worth playing. I think of the Half Life series as an example...always top notch, fun, even though along the same story line on each sequel. One of these days I'll get my hands on a XBOX and play this thing.
thedisagreefairy - I think you are right. I have never played a MMORPG game before, but this one has my interest. I might be one of those noobs jumping in on this one.
Cool technology. I am going to have to keep this in mind if I ever buy 23 more monitors for my computer. :-)
All download & no physical media is not close to being a reality in the US. Especially with ISPs in the US seriously looking into limiting broadband speeds to keep hardware costs, network maintance costs down. Alternatively they are looking at ways to charge digital distributers, or even end users more for higher bandwidth usage of Internet backbones.
Then we have to talk about how damn long it takes to download really huge multi-gig files. Many people do not have network...
The problem with updates that change too much is you don't feel like you own your box, but are just renting it from Sony. They have control of it when you go online. They can do whatever they want to the OS. Sure you can decline an update, but then you are hosed from being able to use the PSN network. They need to be more sensitive to the fact it feels very intrusive to owners to change around the interface of something you have owned for a while, & are familiar with. Adding features - gr...
Gamers expectation levels on game graphics, legnth of play, story writing, voice acting, advanced game play features, etc, have made it so game makers don't really churn out tons of more basic games like they did on PS2. I don't think we will see that again, except for the downloadable games. Now all retail titles are big budget productions that take years to make in order to have a chance at competing with the other company's attempts at the next GTA4 type blockbuster. Video games have gone ...
Sure, I get that. Just curious on what the fans of this game really think. In some series, the interest stays up, but then again some sequels falter & lose their fanbase. I would assume by the fan love that they must improve this game on each release, instead of running it into the ground.
Glad they put Infamous in there. I was totally hooked on that game, and did not see that end coming. Such a crazy reveal, it blew me off the couch.
All I know is my PS3 had a lot of value when I bought it at $399. It replaced my PS2 for games, replaced my DVD, gave me Blu Ray for my HDTV, a browser I can access from my couch, hard drive to store video & music on, ability to network it to my PC for media streaming, has built in Wifi interface...
and they sold it to me for less than what it cost them to make it. Hell yeah on overcooking. I f*ing love it.
Games in general. Just having the console turned on.
Everyone should know that Microsoft doesn't understand the word "free". They don't even understand the words "included as standard at no extra charge". ;-)
I really don't think that money bought him much happyness, do you?
