A number of nearly 5,000% sales increase of a 300 dollar electronic product (any product) sounds like some serious BS. Unless they are comparing it so a period where they sold hardly any.
A lot of talk from these game companies. There is an old saying...
"There are 2 kinds of people, talkers and doers. Those that are talkers don't do, and those that are doers don't need to talk."
It's pretty stupid to do this. Because you are not going to influence anyone;s decision on game purchases in a forum, where people just hang out to give opinions (or talk smack).
And then if people catch you and expose you, it makes people think your company is bush league.
lol, I want to like this game, but I know I will be too irritated to enjoy it. I was getting pissed on simple things like getting over a gap on the demo. I never played any of the others before, so I am a total noob, and think should stay away from this one. Too expensive to replace smashed controllers or broken plasma TV screens. ;-)
champ21 - your cost comparison is flawed because of only looking at a 3 year period. Based upon what Sony has said & done in the past, one can expect at least a 10 year lifecycle for the PS3. During that time period, the console owner will only need to buy games, not upgrade hardware. I would expect to upgrade my entire PC at least once during that time frame if I wanted it to stay viable for gaming. Software for PCs is not very forgiving about playing nice with 5 year old computers.
People should know better than to fall for screenshots as meaning a whole lot several months before a game is out. You have to see actual game play to know what actual game play looks like.
Since the hardware does not change every year, when a software developer says these kinds of things, they are basically saying they did not get all they could out of their game, and could do a better job the next time.
Personally, if it were me, I'd stay out of the maxed out versus more horsepower discussion if I were a software developer. No good way to answer that question. You are either implying you could do better but didn't with the software, or that the hardware is a lim...
Playing the demo gave me the sense that I will alternate between enjoying & hating this game all the way through if I bought it. I'm gonna pass on this one.
If your gonna talk the talk, you better really be sure you have the best game ever. Anything less will then be a disappointment.
Volition did some trash talking about GTA4 right before releasing Saints Row 2. Now I think SR2 is a solid offering, but it seems pretty funny that they went out of their way to bash a superior game that broke sales records. It just made them look foolish.
All that hype about having great graphics & releasing beautiful rendered (not in game) graphics are setting themsleves up to look bad if they don't deliver the very best ever graphics in this game.
The phrase "overhyped" is kind of a stretch often times when people make this accusation. Unless someone is seeking out information on games, you rarely see any hype about any games in most media outlets. I think often times people pull out the "overhyped" card only because they didn't like a game that a lot of people did like, and wanting to talk about on the game websites.
I am amused at the new pre-order incentive trends. Game makers have found a way to get a lot of people's cash before the game is even at the store.
Thanks but no thanks from me though. I am not in the habit of loaning money to corporations, with only a few virtual game guns as a return on my investment. I buy games that are actually on the shelf, not promises of game not yet released.
GT5P is not a demo. I recall paying 40 bucks for it, you unlock vehicles, have different modes of play, etc. But as far as a retail game goes, everyone knows that it is a not a full production value game, but rather a limited teaser release of work in progress.
Forza 3 using this basic game as a point of comparison is kind of like a major motion picture using a made for TV movie as a comparison. Yeah, sure of course it is better. But it is not saying much about how good it is ...
All the overhype of this game & GT5 is funny these days. Because the bottom line is 360 racing fans will buy this game, and PS3 racers will buy GT5.
And it won't matter how much or little hype there is. The sales will be what they end up being regardless, since each game is platform specific. Maybe a handful of people will buy another console to play the other game. Not enough to justify all the hype talk though.

Ah, Twitter...the tool that finally gives all the "who gives a crap?" statements in the world a chance to be heard by a worldwide community that doesn't care about all the petty whiney things people say with it.
Both Microsoft & Sony use their consoles as a vehicle to make money on software and other related online services. The big picture for both of these companies is not necessarily making profits off of the boxes themselves. They can even afford to lose money on hardware sales if they make it up on the related content sales.
I am going to go out on a limb here & say MOST serious gamers are not going to want to play driving games with pretend steering wheels, or shooting games with pretend guns. "Let's pretend" is in the realm of little kid stuff.
I play video games when I feel like relaxing on my couch, so if this stuff becomes the norm, I will still be in the old school minority of saying, "meh, no thanks"
Being the car & racing nut that I am, I would totally buy GT5 & Forza if I owned both consoles. But my budget is a one system setup, so GT5 is what I will have. But that Forza game looks pretty cool to me too.
That is just wierd. Doesn't make me want to run out to the store and buy one.
