Well it served its purpose.. a literal cash grab in a movie release year. It did have impressive graphics, but like all forced multiplayer experiences there was considerable outcry about lack of single player options.

If the $299 USD price included a game and the joy-con charger unit it wouldn't bother me as much as it does with the current offerings. But I'm just not going to buy it and wait for either a price cut and/or a bundle that includes what I already mentioned.

*cough* WiiU .. I can see it selling like the WiiU, maybe slightly better. No chance at 100mil units, good god their corporate execs are an ignorant bunch. The Wii launched at $250 with a game, at a time where the 360 was $300/$400 and the PS3 was $500/600. Now they're launching a console more expensive than XB1 & PS4 with no game. They really need to pull their heads out of their asses before they need to pull their stock out of the dump.

I'm definitely among the skeptical crowd, but it'll still be successful since Nintendo fans have been historically loyal to their new hardware. I just see a number of pitfalls that will prevent it from being wildly successful, and suspect that a decent number of those pre-ordering are doing so to flip on eBay, and that limited supply will prevent it from being available for several months.

They can frame their delayed first-party software lineup as a strategy to ...

Well I certainly don't buy them at launch... uplay will inevitably crash as it does with every new launch, so the online features will be broken. And I'm a huge advocate of waiting the weeks/months for a price drop.. my backlog is big enough that by the time I'm actually ready to play a new game it's on sale for $40.

Well that's essentially the problem.. people keep buying their products expecting Nintendo to have learned from past mistakes. But there's a point where child-like naivety and Japanese cultural differences crosses into poor corporate management and continued market ignorance.

To me it feels like the Switch pricing is trying to make up the lost revenue from the WiiU by fleecing accessory prices and not including a game in the base system package. When it releases...

Evolution and not revolution, right? Other companies put out incremental upgrades, so as long as people manage their expectations it'll do fine. People expecting 'godlike' upgrades from Scorpio are the same people who'll be trashing it in the fall. It needs to stay at/around $400 and be a noticeable but not life-changing upgrade, and offer 4K upscaling to games and snappier load and response times. Would be nice if it was the same size as the One S.. and hopefully drops t...

It's well documented that software moves hardware. This is why so much is being made about the Switch launch lineup. Zelda looks like a great game, but if that's all new buyers get for truly exclusive games from Nintendo's great library there's going to be some pushback from their base.

I think they've already made strides in improving the perception of their brand. That said, as long as customers view this current generation as 'Xbox One' there'll always be the lingering spectre of the past mistakes. They might need to take the Apple approach and simply call it the new Xbox.. much like Apple just calls their tablet the iPad. Or even just Xbox 2.0.. give the customers the clear impression that the hardware has changed.

It should outsell the WiiU since they finally gave it a name that clearly identifies it as something new. But I wouldn't count on it lighting the world on fire.. it still sounds like an overpriced Nintendo-branded android tablet with expensive peripherals and mediocre battery life.

Whenever I snapped TV it was laggy, but I know my friends worked and would snap TV while playing games so if he had people over they could watch something besides him playing games. Never liked the small screen and large sidebar, but I'd still take that over nothing. Oh well.

He's still a hell of a lot better than Dan Mattrick.. look he's not developing the games himself. I think he's a good corporate exec, one who seems to care about games and his platform. I'd take him over Nintendo execs any day, at least he can admit a mistake.

They generally do a fan event in May to get some of the announcements going ahead of E3. I would expect that this year with a hands-on event to showcase the box and some games a few weeks ahead, but hold the release date and price until E3.

At some point I should probably argue with something other than the price.. but I'm sticking with it for now. Core gamers are unlikely to want to spend some $350 (minimum, console + game) when there's better offerings available. If you want a portable console, 3ds has been out longer, has a better game library, and is cheaper. If you want better graphics/3rd party games, you can get a PS4 or XB1 and a bundled game for less than the Switch without a game. At their current price and...

It's one system, with 2 different ways to play it. The dock may provide it some additional performance, but to use that as justification for it's excessive cost is asinine. Portability is merely the gimmick they're using to try to be unique.

You're going to hear a lot more about it as well.

Probably something to do with paying more than an XB1\PS4 for an underpowered 'console' with not-great battery life, no pack-in game, and gouged peripheral prices to name the first 3 things that immediately come to mind. I'm sure it'll sell well out of the gate to the Nintendo faithful and eBay resellers only to trail off as people start to realize they already beat Zelda and now have to wait half a year for the next first-party game release. Enjoy!

Think the gamut of replies has been covered.. the limited supply offered for pre-orders sold out, but you'll see more than a few on eBay or other after-market resellers looking to cash in. Nintendo fans are a loyal group, but I'd expect some feel burned by the WiiU and will hold off for a better game lineup or a price drop.

3370d ago 2 agree1 disagreeView comment

Probably because of the everything pricing. $300 with no game is a ripoff. I'll wait a year when they either; drop the price, include a game, or upgrade the hardware. Right now they're just cashing in on fanboy hype as their prices clearly indicate.

3370d ago 2 agree0 disagreeView comment

Yep I'll be holding off.. I would've jumped at $200, thought about it at $250, but $300 for the system only is outrageous. I think they're trying to make up for some of their losses on the WiiU by gouging the prices for switch hardware. It'll sell out because of how poorly Nintendo handles launch supply/demand, but it'll need a price cut or better initial offering down the line if they expect it to have a chance at success. When you're charging more than a PS4 and X...
