Wow. Amazing article. I wish I could give a bubble to the article, because I would!

LOL! I played the video and thought it was a prank... since it showed an advertisement for Halo: Reach before the video! Misplaced ad is misplaced!

Oh man, I think this article is way off base - all the games he mentioned didn't fail because they were innovative - they failed for other reasons - those games failed because they weren't appealing to it's target audience or the word didn't get out about them. Jet Set Radio? Looked fruity and was about spray painting (I played it and enjoyed it, but can you see why it wouldn't catch a lot of interest?). Mad World was overly gruesome on a platform used for family activi...

Looks great, except no game seems to be able to get first person cover right! If you're listening game makers, KEEP the cover always in first person (so you can't see around the cover unless you're also visible to the enemy) - it's unrealistic and ruins multiplayer when you can look around walls while being completely hidden yourself. Oh, and no one would really put their back to the enemy - you don't sit with your back against the wall behind cover - that's a Hollyw...

A cash-in to me refers to something a publisher pushes out the door without it getting the necessary attention or updates because they know it will sell no matter what (Madden, FIFA, and now CoD). It's something they purposely do not put full effort into knowing it will still sell, not something that simply makes a lot of cash for the publisher. Then Half-life would even be considered a cash-in.

Halo, in this regard, does not fit the title "cash-in" in the lea...

@vickers500
Please don't ever work in the game industry - too many people there that already just don't get it. I can think of literally a hundred ways to innovate FPS's.

For example, I have yet to see a FPS that does a really good cover system - it always switches to 3rd person, which ruins the idea of a cover system because you can see the enemy when they can't see you. Killzone gave a nice attempt but it can definitely be done better. CoD could...

This article misses the number one reason this game failed - it's not accessible. The first time you log into CoD, you know exactly what to do. You may get owned, but you know - point gun, shoot. In BFBC2, you don't know what your objectives are, can't figure out how to pilot the vehicles or blow up ones, get killed quickly, and the gun bounces all over the place with recoil (which I actually prefer - CoD's way too noob friendly). Now while some of these are actually sympt...

Bubbles for you my friend. Great attitude. Why can't everyone be this mature on this site? So sick of people being so pigheaded they'll say something is stupid on one system but would love it if it came to theirs.

Just wondering what the other top game company is? I've never known a game company personally as good as Valve and any other company that has similar support, I'd love to support with my money!

The title of this article SHOULD be "Used games are almost as DAMAGING as piracy". The word bad implies that it is immoral to buy and sell used games, which it most definitely is not.

Buying and trading of used products is a fact of life and a part of our very economy. It's the same with cars, movies, books, you name it. This is the game industry just being whiny.

Not only that, I don't buy the article at all. Most games I buy new, I nev...

What are you talking about? Kotick IS the devil. He can't summon himself? How would that even work!? Think man!

I had this exact problem with Shadowrun. I bought the game, super excited because the price had gone down and I had always wanted to try it. I played the tutorial, hopped in a map, and... got owned by the first guy I saw. Rinse. Repeat. However, the REAL problem is the community itself. I was getting yelled at by my own teammates for not knowing what to do. How do they expect me to know what to do?!? Am I supposed to know the maps and the strategies without ever having played? So afte...

Yes, but you "replied" to his comment by saying "This is really all that needs to be said," indicating that you had read the article and agreed with his response to the article. You even reviewed the article by saying, "Just strikes me as really lazy argument."

To say you were just replying is fine and I can understand the argument that you were free to comment on what he said without needing to read the article, but that doesn't apply to yo...

This is a struggle for me as well. I accept a degree of mature content, but I really hate the way the industry is going - towards immature, over-the-top, violence and swearing. It seems every new game now that comes out has to have rampant cussing and extreme violence as a rule, even if it is a game that shouldn't have that by design. I understand some games are supposed to be like that by design, but why does Battlefield Bad Company 2 have to have swearing yelled in multiplayer? (I gu...

It's obvious that not one person who commented above either read the article or understood it if they did. If you don't read the article or understand it completely, please don't comment. The article was not about what you quickly assumed it was. He even specifically says that there shouldn't be a laundry list of swear words and and sex events in the game.

The funny thing is I completely expected this to happen and even looked in the comments expecting it. ...

This is just like the lack of maturity and intelligence shown by so many N4G users! Why did people disagree to this? "der, I like cod and halo suxs!" Well, thanks for your opinion but stop destroying the comment rating system with your immaturity.

The fact is, this guy is the first to speak the obvious truth and the reason kotick says he can't do this - because then free competitors like Halo would destroy COD (whether you like Halo or not). He also said it in...

Great, I was really hoping they were going to add a bullet or two to the magnum. I'd always get the enemy down to one shot and then have to reload. Limiting bullets just isn't a good way to gimp a non-power weapon and if they wanted to gimp it more they should have given it more recoil or something because it's not fun to play with guns you have to reload constantly and in the middle of battle.

Do others agree of disagree?

I'll second Steven Blum (he's the lead in Epic's new game, Bulletstorm!) but I have to ask, where's Mark Hamill? Is there a more respected voice in gaming (other than perhaps Nolan). I mean, everyone knows his incredible work as the joker, but he's been in like 30 videogames as huge roles (not minor ones), changing his voice and just doing an all around incredible job, literally making his roles memorable just from the quality of his voice work!

I'll never get why when a company decides to go multi-platform everyone gets upset as if they've been betrayed. Doesn't anyone realize this is GOOD news? People care too much about what console they play on - don't you realize that by making games multi-platform, you get to play more games on your platform of choice? Not only that, but the game company you love makes more money for their efforts and thus are more likely to make sequels to the games you love and be around lo...
