Everyone is commenting that there are better FPS's than CoD, which is true... but only depending on what your measure is. There's quality, the amount of people that play it, and the money it generates for the publisher. Nothing comes close to CoD in those last two areas and that's what the developer cares about most - thus why the article is talking about what the developer should do to reach its goal.
That quote is so sad... and is the number one thing that is wrong with the industry today. I recently read that this team had been working 7 days a week, crazy hours for 2 months before its release. Maybe the problem is the publisher wasn't giving them enough time to finish the game. A game can be finished - just ask Valve. There's a difference between there being more that you can do and releasing a finished product.
MORE bubbles for you t2taylor. I couldn't agree more with what you said. The multiplayer is at least an 8.5 by the lowest reviewers standards, and I would give it at least a 9. I get just as sick of people rating a game solely on the single player and ignoring the multiplayer! That's horrible journalism! Bunch of high schoolers in here... Most grading scales in the U.S. are like that too when you get to college. That's THE standard grading scale. High schools tend to alter that scale but some decide to go with the standard scale to match everyone else.
I would highly recommend the game for the multiplayer only. The single player had good spots but gameplay was meh, but the multiplayer is awesome and easily a 9. I've liked it more than Black Ops at this point and pretty much everyone I know who has actually tried it agrees that it's very good. The game is NOT a 5 if you like multiplayer - more like a 9, which with all the recent price drops is worth it.
I actually have no respect for any reviewing outlet that gives this game a 5. That's ridiculous and irresponsible. The single player is possibly a 7, mostly because it needs a little more polish, is a little short, and gameplay is go from area to area and clear out bad guys in each area (sound like Call of Duty anyone?).
The multiplayer though is better than Black Ops in my opinion and is outstanding, easily deserving a 9 or higher. So, how do you give this game a 5...
Are you a multi player or single player type of guy? The single player has gotten a lot of flack and although good is short and a little lacking - more of a rent probably if you're interested. This is where most of the hate is coming from. However, if you're a multiplayer guy, the game is incredible and I highly recommend it. In case you didn't notice, no one is calling the single player lackluster but you - they call it very good but short. This is also the first review I've read that's actually said a single bad thing about the multiplayer - it's gotten higher reviews than the single player usually. So maybe the problem is with your predisposed attitude rather than the game?
Because due to the high reviews the game has been getting (8.5 - 9.3), it's been getting a lot of buzz. The game comes out tomorrow, so it's only for one day they upped it to $15. Maybe Crysis 2 will do the same?

Homefront is different because:
1.) Single player story is pretty unique and seems fun and intriguing
2.) The currency system instead of a killstreak system (like Crysis 2 copied EXACTLY from CoD) should really balance the game and make for some fun decisions. I think more people would disagree with you than you think. It's breaking records for pre-orders for THQ. I decided to give it a try because it looks like it has really good ideas for multiplayer, every single preview from people who have actually played the game has been glowing, and I like supporting the little guy (THQ)rather than feeding the monster that is Activision.
There's another title I can think of that could likely dethrone CoD when it gets announced. Counter-Strike 2. The day that gets announced is the day many a gamer will cry in joy.

I think the reason for the discrepancies in scores just has to do with how much weight the reviewer puts on single player vs. multiplayer. Even though everyone is giving different scores, every review I've read is saying the same thing - singleplayer has issues with story, black loading screens, character empathy, and repetitive sequences, while multiplayer is incredible.
