Oh I'm not crying, I realize there are plenty of opinions out there, both agreeing and disagreeing with my own.
But telling someone not to buy a game, even though they may enjoy it? Journalism is supposed to be unbiased, presenting the facts and letting the reader/consumer decide. Instead, gaming "journalism" is the ultimate expression of fanboy bias and politics. If only people knew how much went on behind the scenes, and how utterly uselss it is to stand by a review...
LOL. Wow,what a sad "review."
Once again, that's "gaming journalism" for you.
I'd like to see the dialogue trees expanded in gaming. Often games with said trees have only one or two eventual outcomes, I'd like real implications from EVERY conversation. Then again, designing such a game would be mindbending.
I'm sorry, but while its a well written article, Gears 2 is hardly the first game to present a story in such a manner. If the author thinks this is metaphysical, then Sons of Liberty will make his head explode.
Hardly a revolution, Gears 2's plot is passable and passably presented. The game succeeds on its visceral thrills, solid co-op, and kickass MP modes. The story? Revolution in presentation? No.
Oh I agree, and platform health is good for gamers, it means more games. However, the problem is people usually twist numbers to suit their own needs. My professor was always hardcore about stating that numbers can be used to support ANY argument, and its true. Very rarely though are numbers used in an intelligent manner, especially around here. It's not a discussion, its vindictive slamming. It degrades to a "nyah nyah" pissing match, where if one game doesn't sell as well as anoth...
The only ones who will lose are gamers if this whole DLC situation gets out of hand. But that's an argument for another thread!
It works both ways. I wouldn't call out one group of fanboys as 'worse' since both are equally as bad in my experience. While they may not say "year of the 360" they are equally as disgusting with their claims of PS3 has no games and their constant insistence on things like sales numbers over fun.
Gears 2 sold 2 million! That's awesome!.... if you work for Epic or MS. If you're a gamer, why aren't you talking about things like the story or the fun gameplay? No, it has ...
The concept of "year of anything" is a joke. So is the concept of "game killer" and "system seller." It's buzz words and media hype that has trickled down to the less intelligent gaming populace who feel they need to justify their purchase.
If anything this is the year of the gamer. Gears 2, L4D, R2, MGS4, LBP, Fallout... its been a pretty damn awesome year, and 2009 looks to be great as well.
Suppose you have both systems which one would you buy??
Um... the one more of my friends will be on? If it takes a side by side comparison to see differences, well... gamers are more petty in this day and age then I originally thought.
I dont get it. What does this have to do with videogames? It's not sales numbers or profit margins or framerate comparisons! Surely this will be the end of N4G!
But but... sales are ALL that matter!
Nancy Drew > FarCry confirmed I guess.
I went to a Gamestop in Burbank for Resistance 2. I was told not to get it because "R2 sucks. Get Gears of War instead." Yeah, nice business move.
Conspiracy? No. Just fanboys. But that's bad for business. I've had fanboys LIE to me to get me to buy a product (MGS4 WILL be on the 360 by the end of 2008!). It's sad.
I'd say calling it mediocre is a bit harsh. It's a great shooter, but it has its share of flaws. Weak bosses seem to be an issue with every shooter this winter.
Another arbitrary score to add to the pile of arbitrary scores. Hurray.
Quantifying fun. The ultimate oxymoron.
LBP, MGS4, and Gears 2 are all extremely well polished and solid visual showcases. I'd give it to Gears for environemnts, and MGS4 for character models.
Fable 2 and GTA4 are glitch city. I wouldn't really rank either one up there, despite GTA's technical achievements. It lacks polish.
Hell, I agree. But even when considering the "within the hobby" point of view... it's sad. When were gamers conditioned to care about pixel fill rates, SKUs, YTD sales, corporate profits, sales data, percentage increases, Cell, Xenon, review scores... It's become this huge E-penis flapping numbers game, and its disgusting, because its sucking all the FUN out of the damn hobby.
I'd kill to have someone to discuss the symbolism in MGS4, or how awesome the Hammer of Dawn...
I'm glad you haven't... but god I hate Vista. BTW, how's ur weekend going? Enjoying Gears 2?
Fanboys suck. None are right.
Have to thank MS's limitless marketing budget for that. They know how to market. I can't help but feel that the Mac commercial is right though... if they spent half the money on fixing things like Vista and the RROD as they do on marketing, well...
Why thank ya. And yeah, Bodhi is a pretty cool guy. It's nice when a gamer will take the time to discuss something. Especially those without a fanboy stick in his azz. ;-)
