Halo is perfect. Nevermind lack of bosses, repetitive enemies, a weak ending to a great trilogy, a cookiecutter campaign, weak feeling pew pew pew guns, lack of compelling antagonist... Those things don't matter, because Halo is perfect. M I RITE? (Sarcasm aside, Halo is pretty awesome. But the obvious lack of consistency in reviews is my point.)

This game is already being nitpicked, as predicted.
I couldn't customize my character in CoD4... I can see KZ2 being slammed for it. It had generic real world weapons, wasn't slammed for it. And CoD4 is the greatest FPS of this generation so far.
Enemy variety IS a serious concern of mine, but until they play the entire game, how will they know? Constructive criticism is a great thing however, it's a shame its only applied to a handful of titles for fear of pissi...

As for "Gears X" the solution is simple... multiplatform. I don't see how getting more potential consumers is "screwing the fanbase." If it is, then Square Enix has a lot of aplogizing to do, as would other franchises like RE and DMC.
Still, I don't think it will happen, as MS will spend whatever $ they need to in enticing Epic to stay.
UT3 looked pretty boss on the PS3 with more going on than Gears 1. I think with some smart programming its quite possible.

I agree Mastiff, well said and well thought out post. Both games are great, the need to constantly do "versus" topics only shows that 1) gamers are insecure and 2) journalists have nothing to write about that has any meaning.
And ALL review scores are abitrary, I wish people would learn that. If they weren't then every outlet would give a game the same score.

I STILL play CoD4 to this day regularly. *sigh* It just has such great balance and map design. It's not perfect though.

Personally, I think the comparisons between the two franchises has always been silly, as one is a TPS and one is an FPS. But fanboys sure do love their arguing while making NO sense.
Nathan Drake is probably one of the most likeable, awesome characters created so far this generation. I only hope Mr. Hale and Mr. Fenix can learn a thing or two from Naughty Dog.

I've played Gears 2 and R2 extensively. I enjoyed both. Both have flaws. Neither is GOTY for me. Both were good sequels.
This story was about R2 compared to Gears 2. It's the author's opinion, but you go on to, very pathetically, bash MGS4. Someone feels a little threatened.
