Depends how you look at it. Some would say they dropped the OG xbox far too quickly in order to force the issue with the next generation and their 360.
Basically you can prove anything with statistics. A 3 or 4 fold increase in user base is to be applauded but claiming it as "Definitely the biggest leap forward this gen." is merely reinforcing how poorly the OG xbox sold in comparison (ie not much more than even the gamecube).

Sony didn't lose as much market share as you suggest as they were still selling ps2 and doing well with it until very recently. Not sure if they can do the same with ps3, but ms themselves believe they can shift another 20m units before they quit with the 360, I'd guess with ps+ being such a big draw recently that Sony could at least achieve that themselves... then we'll be left with a 3-way tie around 100 million units for Wii, 360 and ps3.
@kneon Actually it's probably several more billion now after $1billion spending on game creation/paid exclusives and their share of the processor design costs with AMD.

I agree, I love the XMB but I know it put some people off.
But you have to look at it in the context of what the ps4 is all about... there's a share button on the pad, the console is all geared up for social interaction, like it or not that's probably why it has the look and feel it has because it's what the mass of consumers will feel comfortable with.

Having got a bit bored of asscreed this game has me interested again, it looks great both visually and in terms of gameplay depth. "seamlessness" - it's a win.

Opening an xbox-only store seems to be the craziest kind of all-eggs-in-one-basket, until you realise it's Game and they're a half step away from being bankrupt, so a m$ lifeline is probably enough to keep a few people in work for a few more months.
Fanboy is just a handy tag people like to put on platform supporters and usually as a way to feel better about themselves in some way. For me, there's nothing dirty or twisted about being a fan of one particular brand or label, we all do it in all aspects of our lives from the drinks we consume to the clothes we wear. Only when it comes to consoles it's frowned upon because... well why is it?
Platform zealotry is nothing new, it's been around since C64 vs Spectrum...
