Let's look at the bigger picture:

"how it improves the living room"
This comment about "the living room" got me thinking, we've heard this "battle of the living room" stuff before, but is there much info out there about where people play their consoles? Personally I've had a couple in the living room on occasion, but usually it's in a room just for gaming or a bedroom.
I've googled quite a bit but cannot find any research done on this. ms clearly ...
I got the poll email and decided to give it a go...
Age - entered
Occupation - Self Employed/Company Director/Something else option chosen
And that was it...
"Sorry, you do not fit the profile, thanks for your time"
Pfft!
How are ms supposed to make millions from targeted advertising and customer profiling if there's no camera watching you and your family while you watch TV and play your games?
Kinect 2.0 IS Xbox One, it cannot function without it.
There are reasons why it won't happen.
I think it's better to go with one of the retailers Sony links to on their site - much better chance of things going smoothly.
Fair enough supporting your local indie when buying games, but when it comes to day one consoles I'll stick with ShopTo or Amazon.
That might be so for the games (I haven't checked it myself) but the Xbox One is going to be $600AUD there, that's only £356 in UK money, barely more than a ps4!
ps4 is going to be the equivalent of £326, again, cheaper than in the UK/European equivalents.
"Graphically, this game looked pretty good. But the gameplay doesn't look like a system seller"
stilum super substantia.
4 months too late, that's when it was posted. Nobody seemed to care then, why now?
"the consoles that you play games on, Watch Netflix on, and stream all sorts of content through, have less memory than a mid-range smartphone from a year or two ago. Do you really think either console will have a problem with games or apps with 8 GB of memory?"
It's a good point, putting it in that kind of context really shows all the arguing and posturing by box-tickers to have been pretty pointless.
If you're going to go that far back then why not go a bit further and mention Sega CD, CD-i, Atari Jaguar CD, 3do etc.
Amazon's placeholder date is 31st December 2013, therefore an estimated delivery date of the first week of the new year based on that is to be expected - it's just churned out automatically and doesn't have anything to do with some kind of delay. Until there's a firm date, Amazon will still show 31st December 2013.
The conclusions the guy jumps to re: amazon and info from a gamestop employee are farcical. He then goes on to say that gamestop just received some...
Which one?
"THEY SOLD OUT!"
Some places might of sold out in some countries, but there are still plenty of day one consoles to be had in the US and the rest of the world.
If you want to see how preorders migth not be looking postive for the One, take a look at the worldwide Amazon sales for 2013 in videogames:

Count how many times they say "TV" - I bet not a single time.
I'm sure some people are planning their parody videos already.
"Mover's and Shaker's really just show how quickly something sells over a time frame. This is why they can vary wildly from day to day. X1 had it's spot at #1, and then moved around. "
Movers and shakers is not worth the click. It works by taking the sales rank of an item over a period of time (I don't know what length this is - anyone?) and compares it to the sales rank for the past 24 hours - it's basically a way of tracking items that have lar...
Laharl
I think I will buy this game at some point, but tbh the genre is not really my kind of thing. The discovery I enjoy, adventuring and levelling a character is all good fun, but I've never really been compelled to do that with others.
If I can try things out without the pressure of other players I'm happy to give it a look, then probably dip my toe in the multiplayer stuff and see how I get on.
basically it just looks too great to miss out on.
Can you even play offline? I thought they simply meant you can just go about your business all by yourself but within their online universe.
@green The figures show a deficit of $3bn over the past 10 years, xbox one development costs and investments (eg $1bn buying timed exclusives and producing their own 1st party games, $3bn shared costs developing APU with AMD etc.) will all add up. This is why ms shareholders are not fans of the xbox division of the company.
