@GraveLord "There are many more like this. A month or two ago Amazon took a poll and PS4 won by a landslide. "
And that was after only 4 days when the poll mysteriously vanished with obvious reasons why.
Have bookmarked this comment, will be fun to remind you of it in 5 months time.
It's not lost yet.
No, the real answer is 6.
(1 + 2 + 3)
You don't often see much in the way of innovation and huge leaps and bounds gameplay-wise in the launch window, but to me there's plenty of interesting stuff set for release and we don't even have all pieces of the puzzle yet.
What do you look forward to "10 years down the road"? Plenty of people think consoles won't be around then (I'm not one of them!).
Not only do I think this is likely, I don't really see Sony taking that much of a hit with the $500 price as I'm not totally convinced the $350 retail price of ps4 is doing them much harm and the $250 for Vita almost 2 years on is likely a very safe price point at the end of 2013.
If it happens it'll be BIG... The powerful ps4, remote play, ps+ on both devices and Vita's own native software. That looks way better value than a console with a camera for the same...
@mattdillahunty
It's hard not to be sceptical when some things look iffy:
OPM had a layout and design change from issue July 2013 "new format new console". The font and layout do not match the "scan" from Gamepur.
The current OPM issue (September 2013) has this as one of the main mentioned features on the digital download site: "Mark Cerny - The man who invented PlayStation 4 on his latest work of wonder and maki...
This just looks fake to me - is it really an OPMUK article from the magazine? The styling and the font don't look quite right and the writing is questionable, even for a games magazine.
"Here is the list of unique features..."
And then goes on to mention things that are not unique such as 1080P camera, "track the controller similarly to Sixaxis on the PS3", "Can be used from around 3-4ft away"...
And some that are more fanciful:
"Can recognize your mood" - I smell Milo...
Oh and one feature that cause me to giggle:
"can be turned off".
Were you around in the early 90s when VR was supposed to be the next big thing? 20 years later it's almost there and potentially living up to the old promise.
Maybe in another 10 or 15 years people will come up with a worthwhile implementation of motion controlled gaming, but for now, not for me.
All this does is highlight how many multiformat devs simply cater to the lowest common denominator and that the games are essentially the same in most cases despite the platform they appear on.
These cross-gen games might be the first to reach the bargain bins on new consoles for this reason.
Agree mostly, but bigger hard drive is not big enough imo when you consider how much bigger the games are. 500GB less formatting, less OSs, less user data... how many games will fit really fit on there? My current consoles both have bigger HHDs.
"I get it’s only 6% or so, but that could translate to a few FPS in the real world."
If a game is running at 30fps it's not going to then run at 33fps is it? It's going to be locked to 30fps. In a very rare case where a game might be struggling to attain 30fps or 60fps this might help it hold firm there and not lag by lessening some bottleneck.
You can tell this is coming from a marketing/planning exec rather than a techie, the way it is wor...
"only real difference is i can use one device as a cable box"
My understanding was that it could be used in conjunction with one (but only compatible models/services, in the US).
My opinion is the upclock is to better match their initial target specs devs have been working towards (ie they overstated it originally).
@dedicatedtogamers "Additionally, I think the number of multi-console owners is going to drastically decrease."
Agreed. With both major formats have subscription services to get the most from the gameplay, more people will be inclined to pick one or the other, rather than have a main machine and a secondary one for its exclusives. Then it's all down to upfront price and value. That is, unless prices really crash through the floor for both hardware and subscripti...
I was forever holding back a tear playing Missile Command. The inevitable death of every last human throughout 6 whole cities... oh the futility. I'm welling up just thinking back...
"This is the time where we've gone from the theory of how the hardware works--what do we think the yield is going to look like, what is the thermal envelope, how do things come together--to really having them in our hands. That's the time where you start tweaking the knobs. Either your theory was right dead on, or you were a little too conservative, or you were a little too aggressive. It's actually been really good news for us, and an example of that is we've tweaked up ...
@xmarksdaspot_ "The question is what is the ESRAM used for exactly."
Frame buffer.
Sony's dev suite has been in the works a lot longer than m$'s and is reportedly fairly mature already.
