AngelicIceDiamond, you wouldn't be the first to turn your back on them given the recent revelations compounding the previous 6 months of u-turns and half truths.

@MMEHTA "They have lost billions but since 08 they have been recouping the loss from Xbox live and the 360 slim sales."

Yes, trouble is they've gone and invested millions upon millions more in their next venture - xbox one.

This cycle can only end if they do so well that they break even and begin to generate real profit. I'm not sure anyone sees that happening right now with the fiasco that has been xbox one so far. It's been nothing sho...

Not so. Since inception, the xbox division has never broken even. It's true to say that Live memberships generate a sizeable income, but it does not and has never offset the costs of creating the original xbox and further R&D of subsequent consoles, peripherals, infrastructure etc.

And I never said he did. I pointed out that he didn't mention the GDDR5 in his GPU which is more to the point if he's going to state why he thinks his low spec PC can run his game so well.

@mistertwoturbo And now we see why they took the risks with the upclocks of CPU and GPU... not simply because "they could", but because if they hadn't they'd be in even worse dire straits that they are currently. They did it to attempt to remain relevant, but at what cost and was it even worth it given the results so far?

It's been suggested that, contrary to what microsoft have said (that it was within tolerances so they just went ahead), instead they&#...

@cycofoo831

Your gtx460 has its own 1GB of GDDR5 at 115GB/s. The 8GB of DDR3 belongs to your i5, not your GPU.

xbox one "needed" esram to help compensate for its shared pool of 8GB DDR3 @ 63GB/s.

Not sure any CoD has ever been something worthy of a benchmark between competing systems, least of all this latest itteration.

Just sayin.

They're just a cheaper version of a store demonstration unit. They appear to be an xbox one but it's just half the case with a small PC inside playing videos of xbox one games.

This story came about from a thread on GAF. The "overheating" stuff is just conjecture either on behalf of the rep or the store manager guy. Of course a games console would overheat inside a perspex coffin with no ventilation, but to me it looks like this display was never meant to ho...

See, Microsoft, this is what you've forced your ultraloyal fanbase into doing - huge meltdowns and rants all because you took gamers for granted as you cast your eyes on this ill-conceived battle for the living room that has been your goal all along.

@zidane1341 "I could have sworn we play games, not resolution or graphics"

If that were the case there would be no reason for new console generations. Games are the sum of their parts - with greater...

Of course we enjoy games that are fun, that being the whole point of games. But new console generations are all about doing that with a leap in graphical fidelity as much as any other single thing.

Games are a visual medium - graphical quality, resolution and screen update speed are as important as anything else when creating the most immersive experiences.

If a platform is struggling to show it has the grunt to pull away from the existing generation of hardw...

@gamer7804 Yeah and earlier today IGN said DR3 was aiming for 1080P/30 and hit it 90% of the time... then the actual dev of DR3 said 720/30. So take what IGN shove down your throat with maybe just a pinch of salt?

Anyone know how they are selecting the lucky few?

Seems a little odd for a couple of reasons. Firstly, giving away the console and launch games to the very people who are sure to have already preordered one doesn't seem to have any benefit to the brand, they're going to be all over it anyway. Secondly, is there at least the slightest possibility of some people cancelling their pre-orders in the hope of waiting on a free console email?

Don't worry madpuppy, it's simply the last line of defence for the microsoft apologist denialist. They've exhausted their entire repertoire of comebacks and retorts and all they're left with now is saying they're not playing anymore and are taking their ball home with them... they don't care for better graphics, better processing power or any technical advances, they're more than happy with a box that they can talk to in order to change tv channel or wave their arm...

Balance? That word again! Which balance would that be, the xbone's ossum balance or his bank balance we're talking about now?

@mewhy - it seems so far that EA are content to do this parity thing at least to begin with. At least others are aiming for the best game they can reasonably make on the individual platform, instead of simply aiming for a very low bar for all.

"Despite most gamers being unable to tell the difference"...

derp

Might be harder to tell the difference in 720P 30fps YouTube videos, sure, but for real on actual hardware, not some half-arsed streams, it's night and day difference.

@BBBirdistheWord

"why was this approved? It's a youtube clip. No story."

No story? There's more journalism in this feature than in a weeks worth of content from big gaming "news" sites.

Shame on anyone with that kind of thinking. Exposing hypocrisy and potential willful bias is what any real journalist should seek to do and we should all praise and welcome it when and however it arrives.
