I tried to get into Mass Effect, but personally I hated the game. Primarily the game play mechanics were terrible, I liked the dialog trees though. Plus with Keith David and Seth Green voice acting, I could not take the story seriously. I kept expecting Keith David to say; "Navy Accelerate your Life!". Just kidding, he is the narrator in those Navy commercials.
There is a beta coming this summer, it will be closed, but the producer of the game said that a few spots in the beta will be available to the public and other members (I assume he means GAP members). The beta will be handled by SCEE (Media Molecule is European), so hopefully we will see if this closed beta comes to the US. He said they are shooting for a late July/August beta.

I agree that a demo helps a lot, but as long as its polished. Imagine if you could get your hands on an E3 demo, many of them are not completely polished, a great example is Uncharted Drakes Fortune. During E3 many publications including IGN said that the game looked great but the controls were not up to the Naughty Dog standard, hence why these demos say "pre-alpha" or "work in progress" either in the main menu or on screen. You haven't seen the Mountain Dew and US Army ads huh?
You can turn off the notifications but then you won't get them in-game either. I just want to be able to turn them off for movies. You can log in as a guest and not go on live, thats the only true way, but you can't access net-enabled HD-DVD features while not on live.
If there is a way to turn off the ads I would like to know, the PS3's XMB menu has zero ads (minus the news ticker that can be turned off) and is free so why cant Gold members have ad free blades.

You mention that the PS3 doesn't have in-game xmb friends list communication features, but thats wrong. Many newer PS3 games (Fall 07 or newer) feature in-game friends lists and/or the ability to chat with your friends in game for example (some with patches); Resistance Fall of Man, Warhawk, Rockband, Call of Duty 4, GTA4, Burnout Paradise.

They look extremely similar but the PS3 does not look washed out, the 360 looks washed out to me, other than that the differences are minor
The first game was good, doesn't look like Gears 2, more like 1.5 (kinda like Vegas 2, not leaps and bounds better). The game play looks exactly the same (minus the dual chainsaws) the only major difference is graphics in the video. I loved the first Gears but Im' a little skeptical of this game after RSV2 came out (the original RSV on 360 came out the same time as gears).
GTA 4 is undeserving, are you serious? You haven't played Ratchet ToD if you think its not a great next-gen game. SSHD is the best original down loadable game I have played this generation, it's way better than geometry wars.
