Well, I'll concede that they haven't done anything since the PS 2.0 days of the FX bomb. But let's give credit where it's due: the Doom 3 engine has actually been used in several next gen titles: Prey, The Darkness, and Chronicles of the Riddick AoDA. These were all stellar FPS games, my favorite still being Prey.

Of course that doesn't mean that ID's done anything besides Doom and Quake but their tech was a major accomplishment for a long time after Doom 3.

That's because they haven't had to, Doom 3 still remains a solid FPS even today.

Wow...you'd sacrifice half the framerate just to have it on one disc? They're essentially the same game and you'd go for the gimped version? Well I can see that it'd be your only choice if you didn't have an Xbox 360, but still don't pretend that lower fps means a better game!

And who says the 360 version can't have v sync as well? Bioshock even let you chose v sync on or off in the Xbox 360 version, so it's not like it's impossible.

Xbox 360 is NOT a PC. It uses an IBM PowerPC architecture based processor just like Macs did back when they were supplied CPUs by IBM, and so does PS3.

It's easier to develop for than PS3, but NEITHER are PC architectures.

GTA IV ran at subHD and without AA on PS3.

The specs that matter the most are memory, graphics, and processor.

-Memory

*both consoles have about the same amount of memory, with the exception that Xenos has a dedicated 10MB of EDRAM.

PS3: 256MB XDR + 256MB GDDR3. Having memory split between the two main processors has advantages and disadvantages. The main disadvantage is that workloads will always have to be smaller to fit into the main system, since each pool is hardwire programmed to be DEDICAT...

50 million in sales and this is how they keep their lead? By cutting support for the few things that Wii had going for it?

I still can't understand how people call Nintendo geniuses for their Wii, they're really crooks in the end. Crooks that have made off huge with their shark grins.

In what region though, what were the figures broken down into regions, and what growth/decline per region?

Off topic, that pic in the article looks so geometrically incorrect...is it a metaphor?

It's not only bluray that's making PS3 expensive, it's also the chipset. The motherboard has the CellBE and the XDR memory, as well as the RSX gpu from nVidia.

*IBM can't cut CellBE down in price too much because its development was very expensive and they depend on PS3 for the brunt of CellBE's sales and exposure.

*The XDR memory is something exclusive to the PS3 because of its connection (and necessity) with the FlexIO rambus of the CellBE. But it's not a widesprea...

Cutting operating inefficiencies leads to job loss, how ever you look at it. It's like Office Space: once the "performance evaluation" comes into play you know you're on your way out.

Yeah you forgot to mention how Microsoft had a HUGE comeback with Xbox 360.

It's easy for Sony fanboys to conveniently mask another console's progress.

6019d ago 2 agree0 disagreeView comment

Yeah, there's no question about Sony producing great innovations and keeping the PS3 experience fresh, but just how long can they keep that up? When you're losing money quarterly and still put out a service for free like PSN then you're obviously not ONLY losing but spending too!

Microsoft's model with Xbox Live will keep them afloat. The console is affordable and the games are amazing. And the updates just keep getting better.

Microsoft keeps taking mortar fire and walking through unscathed, year in year out. Even the 3 red lights error hasn't been enough to topple them. Hopefully Sony will realize that PSN needs to be taxed, for the greater good. It's like anything else out there, you have to build a system that puts your numbers in the positive before ...

Um...I've blind hacked my phone when the screen broke so that I could fish out all my contacts and saved messages onto my PC. Does that count? Probably not...much respect to a fellow gamer.

So you mean to say that iPod invented the mp3 player? Because believe it or not there were mp3 players long before iPod. And there were portable media devices long before iPod got video...and there were portable gaming devices long before iPod got games...and there were touch screen enabled devices and PDAs and smartphones long before iPhone.

And before Mac OS X there was Windows XP.

So the pattern I see here isn't origin...it's refinement. But it wasn't always benef...
