I think it's good that Nintendo are as you say 'half gen' it gives a reason to own their console as well as a PS4/720. It made sense this gen to own both a PS3 and a Wii but owning a PS3 and a 360 was just a waste of money because they're pretty much the same console.

@Plagasx, the Wii lasted 6 years with mainly only Nintendo 1st and 2nd party titles to carry it. I'm sure they'll do the same thing with the Wii U if they have to.

Ubisoft are doing a good job on it bringing ZombiU, AC3 & 4 and Watch Dogs, Injustice, TT making their new Lego game an exclusive, Criterion putting a lot of effort in making Need for Speed better for the Wii ...

The reason the Wii U is compared to 7th gen consoles instead of 8th gen consoles is because it's the only 8th gen console that is on the market as we speak. I'm sure the 360 was compared to 6th gen console back in 2005.
The fact is there is only one thing that qualifies a console as in a particular generation and that is when it is released. The Wii U was released after the 7th gen so it is an 8th gen console. There is no 'real' next gen.

It's good that they try to reinvent gaming and have real innovation each generation. If Nintendo did the exact same thing that Sony and Microsoft do then the gaming industry would be such a boring place.
Three consoles all capable of the same thing with the same controller releasing the same versions of the same games. What would be the point in owning more than one console? What would be the point in more than one console existing?
I don't see the problem, it's a Nintendo platformer I'm sure it'll be great fun to play.

@LAWSON72, until the day Sony or MS single handedly save the console industry like Nintendo did back in the 80's then Nintendo will have always done more for the industry than those two have.
4.6% sounds bad on it's own but then you read the other consoles have about 11% and it doesn't actually sound so bad, I'm sure that number will grow over the next few years.
The biggest problems with the statistics are that this was only 2500 North American developers meaning there are other NA devs who weren't part of the poll who might be developing for the Wii U and then there's the rest of the world to consider. I'm sure a lot more Japanese develo...
I don't think they'll compete on a straight level, GTA is GTA it's in a world of it's own. I think they'll both be very successful and most people will just get both, I know I am.
I loved the privateer missions on AC3 but a whole game centred around sailing seems more like it should be a spin off like Revelations and Brotherhood as opposed to being the 4th main game, either way I'm looking forward to hearing more about this game.
The main mistake Nintendo was is their marketing. The needed a completely new name for their console to differentiate it from the Wii and do a lot more marketing get more adverts on TV that define the main differences between the Wii and Wii U.

@Enemy, Just because Sony are clearly your favourite doesn't mean they won. The console war of the 7th gen has been won by Nintendo as the war is judged by sales and in both hardware and software sales worldwide Nintendo has the most.

None of the games at the conference looked better than any AAA game that came out last year. I think when the PS4 comes out the games will look better but as for now no they didn't look as good as the Sony fanboys are pretending.
