@Magnes
But last generation we did see many games shutdown the servers on PSN even as Xbox gamers continued to play them years on. That was a benefit of your $35.
Comparing gas to games is about as dumb a comparison as there can be. There are multiple sources for oil all over the world. The US receives oil from the Middle East , Canada, Africa and South America. Plus from the US. On top of that American gas prices are heavily subsidized by the rest of the world. Check European gas prices.
Here's why gas got so much cheaper in 'Merica. OPEC prices got high after they cut supply. US producers started producing far more oil than...
I think this devs getting a little ahead of himself. He needs to calm down. There were articles a month or two ago saying Nintendo had started shipping dev kits to third parties. You're not one because Nintendo is trying to keep their design a secret.
Here's why he needs to be patient. With the advancements in architecture and power efficiency Nintendo should be able to get a huge leap in power over the current generation.
With the move to 14nm Ni...
There is no doubt that publishers and executives make too much money. But the idea that games will remain $60 for 30 campaigns with increasingly sophisticated technology is ridiculous. Many of the people that complain about the cost of games will be complaining if the price hits $62 at current content levels in thirty years.
Some gamers think programming is a minimum wage job. That is why they expect a thirty hour campaign for $60.
Its obvious you don't know what project origami was. It wasn't a product, it was a concept of Microsoft's vision for tablets. Its what they wanted OEMs to do. And it worked. Tablets are everywhere now.
Surface is exactly what its supposed to be. Maybe you've never heard of iPad Pro but it exist because Microsoft made Surface Pro as a reference machine to get OEMs to do better design for Enterprise applications. Again, that worked because now even Apple has a...
Mars look above. Put reply in the wrong place.
Hey Mars, I'm assuming you were referring to me since I'm the only one that posted twice so ill respond. First if you were, the line you quoted wasn't by me. Second I didn't read anywhere in that section of the conversation where anyone was trying to put Microsoft and Sony on the same footing when it comes to Kinect. But if someone was to think about it there actually is no difference whatsoever in their positioning on motion control.
Microsoft added Kinect...
If it's cheaper to do this in-house why are Amazon and Microsoft's cloud services growing so fast while dropping prices just as fast. In a business worth hundreds of billions it would seem in-house saves large corporations hundreds of millions. Yet they choose Microsoft, Amazon and others to do this for them.
Game developers don't have the money to run large scale server databases themselves. Better to relieve yourself of the employee benefits, office space requ...
It wasn't about what the price was as much as it was where prices were going. Everyone knew DDR4 was coming early in the lifecycle of the current generation and knew it would make DDR3 prices drop quickly. HBM was further on and expected to be very expensive. Microsoft decided correctly that they could make up most of the PS4 advantage from more expensive parts through engineering. They did, there is clearly no 50% advantage for PS4. Expensive HBM has kept GDDR5 the main memory option and...
Joe there is no getting around the additional cost of adding more GPU power. They have no choice. Unless they plan to launch the PS5 in the next 18 months they have to add an external GPU. That will add $100 at the least and more likely $200. I would bet that additional GPU is the reason they are waiting till Fall instead of launching with everyone else in the next month or so. They needed to wait for the 14nm GPU process to save money on the added GPU.
I expect PSVR to co...
Kinect has nothing to do with the GPU Microsoft chose. The CPU in Xbox One is the same as the one in PS4. Its actually running at a faster clock speed so CPU is eliminated from your equation. The parts for Kinect 2 were actually less than the $100 extra Xbox One cost at launch so Kinect actually added more money to add a better GPU.
Microsoft chose the GPU they did as well as DDR3 memory for cost purposes over the lifespan of the generation. Because of DDR4 RAM is much chea...
Kinect fizzles because Microsoft needs to do what they have done with tablets. Most have forgotten or just never knew it was Microsoft who initiated the modern tablet era we are in now. They pushed it with their Project Origami videos. Then recently they saved it from being a race to the bottom, and away from Windows, with Surface Pro. There are ways of making Kinect useful to hardcore gamers. Microsoft just needs to take the lead on it. Or finance others to.
HTC may have overreached. I'm not sure the ability to answer calls or to move around will have any real place in the early VR era. Once AR comes more into play mapping the room might make more sense. Or having two versions would make more sense. Unless they have commercial plans for this to be sold in bulk to companies that will have VR arenas the added expense may cost them. If they do market it more to potential start-up arena based companies they could surprise everyone. Barring that t...
If the die shrinks on GPUs keeps up with CPUs there is no reason this shouldn't happen. If you look at the last year of GPUs with Fury X down to Nano we saw a drop in specs but not in line with the drop in TDP. Now moving to architectures focused on TDP and dropping two die sizes will substantially increase power while decreasing power needs. AMD demonstrated a computer setup last month at CES that had 1080p/60fps on less than 85watts. With additional architectural tweaks and a potential ...
Genuine the real issue isn't the difference. It is well established their are differences. The problem is sometimes they are incredibly slight and play little role in the enjoyment of the experience. Another issue is the constant movement of goalpost. When PS3 had issues on multiplatform games frame rates didn't seem to matter because PS3 was superior hardware. But more than anything this is the main issue, the vast majority of the braggarts and complainers couldn't tell the diffe...
As cost and size continue to drop it eventually will be.
Next week? Next hour.
Imalwaysright I'm not sure how old you are but you're wrong on this. The gaming industry has imploded. There is a huge pile of former developers. Or they've switched to mobile or Arcade. Take away games financed by Sony or Microsoft. And Nintendo. Then remove EA, Activision and Zenimax. Then Square, who merged. Look at the mergers. Look at the developers that had to run to big publishers to survive. Look at Crytek. Name all of the third party AAA titles for this year that aren'...
Yeah, people are too busy playing FIFA.
