Exclusives? Really? All of those are poor excuses. But the exclusives things is the worst.

Look at last year.
Sony released six major exclusives. LBP2, SOCOM 4, Killzone 3, InFamous 2, Uncharted 3 and Resistance 3.

What happened. The 360 sold more consoles worldwide. So while exclusives really seem to matter to a few. The majority seem to be ignoring them. Exclusives are meant to sell consoles. Six of Sony's "biggest" didn't do to...

Sure, all of that cost money. But not enough to cause a loss for this year since it was spread out over the course of the last six. Plus it is far cheaper to do the work in-house than to hire someone to do it for you. The other company is looking to make a profit. And in a highly specialized field like CPU design that will be a big profit.

MS does spend a lot on R & D. Billions a year. But I was speaking mainly to the cost of the 720. I would doubt that they spent more t...

The loss is because of the internet advertising company they bought. They downgraded the value by over 6 billion. As for 720 R & D, it has been done over the course of the last 6 or 7 years. If you look back at old articles they have mentioned that they had already started work on the 720 back in 2006 or maybe '05. Plus a ton of their work is done in-house. MS started hiring CPU architects back in 2004 and now have over 200 of them on their Redmond campus. They design their own CPUs n...

The lack of creativity is a product of the way we choose the people given a chance. It seems that often the people that push culture ahead were not the best students. In the US, the education system is broken and has been for 30 or 40 years. Cookie-cutter is the order of the day and everyone is pressed into a round hole no matter what shape fits them best.

The drop out rates are close to, or above fifty percent. And more than half never finish college. Over a third that do ca...

Blacktric $100 in trade-in value at gamestop is 6 games that came out in the last two weeks. Amazon will give you $10 or more more than gamestop per title. Sometimes more. I traded in a game at Amazon earlier this year for $38 that gamestop was only offering $22 for. I'll continue to stay away from GS. And I'm sure valve will be offering this there soon.

Access to everything that you could in real life. Doors all work. Drawers can open. Not less load times. No load times. More ways of accomplishing something. True open world. Enter a building from the roof if you have a way to get up there. Not just the front door.

Sony releases products with major problems. Anyone that bought a SXRD LCoS TV can tell you that. And Sony never fully addressed that issue. They just denied over and over and finally quietly allowed people to trade-in for a new set. Most never knew they had an option.

Consoles need an install base. Vita is a self fore-filling prophecy. You need the games for the sales and you need the sales to get the developers to make games for it. Though the launch line up was touted as one of the best ever and it didn't sell many units. So maybe it just 'ain't going to happen.

I disagree with Pachter on a lot. As I do with most analyst. But gamers need to realize we made this guy. Gaming became big business and people follow analyst who wanted to be in on the next big thing. Pachter said a bunch of off the wall stuff, like most of them do, about things they know little about and gamers did what they do. They pounced. And we gave this guy way more clout and exposure than he deserved. Just like Cooper Lawrence. If he had been ignored, he would still be sitting in som...

Green I have to disagree with you on who is playing handhelds. The average gamer is over 30 now. And the DS appeals to a lot more than young girls and kids. When the DS first launched it was common to see older business people, especially women on the subway with one. And the games they played with brain training games and now Sudoku. Not cute kid games.

Wait...what?

I didn't see older people with DSs on the subway?

@Remember

Actually I think you just aren't looking at the whole business. You are one of the many people that believe the status quo is what makes the world go round. It's not. Big companies, with the help of banks and government, kill real competition and keep prices from falling as soon as they should.

Way too often big companies exploit small inventors because the little guy doesn't have capital to get an idea made of to pay off the lawyers to...

Doesn't matter, They shouldn't get the IP. No investor should. It's like a bank still owning your house after you pay it off. They profited on the interest like Sony profits on exclusivity. It's the poor system we have accepted to get ahead. It's why the rich get richer and the poor stay poor. If any company was really cares about growing the industry, they would take a chance on their support paying off in a reasonable fashion. Expecting to own the IP is gouging. Look at ...

You still shouldn't have to sell the rights. An advertising budget should buy you exclusivity, not the IP. MS doesn't own Gears, but they produced a 10 million dollar advertising campaign for exclusivity. Gears is a far more valuable franchise. The difference was Epic had the financial and stability position to stand their ground. I don't know that QD was in need of money. But giving up the IP for advertising says they were unsure about their position.

On another...

@Money

It's a sad time we live in when agenda gets in the way of facts. Even when the dev says we're going multi-plat, some disagree.

@Omni

When you borrow that much money and take on a board member from the financing company, you're going to go whatever direction is needed to make the payments on that loan. Multi is the best route for that. Though they might have jammed themselves. Some gamers can be petty and vindictive and stop...

@Newmonday

Owning 60% is enough to call the shots. They would have to convince the Board that it would be worth it to cut off the PS3 and Wii U(though they would probably allow the Wii U). The only way to do that would be by paying a huge sum to make up for any losses. Cutting off the PS3 only benefits MS. Not Activision. So it wouldn't happen unless, like you said, they bought the whole company.

And digital doesn't hurt profits. It increases profits...

More people are running away from CoD. Mainly because there are more to run away. But just reading post on forums you see the tides turning against the game. A negative comment on CoD used to cause you to lose bubbles. Now you get mostly agrees. The games has lost it's way. The next "future" version seems like a reach. Trying to include every possible fan base to keep the numbers high. But CoD is headed the way of Madden. It may remain a top selling gam...

CoD is a game already seemingly on it's way out. If MS paid billions for the company and cut off Sony they would have a hard time getting their moneys worth out of it. They will still have WoW. But that would be a slow recoup.

@Dante

I'm not sure how MS could do any worse at ruining CoD than Kotick already is. The current model of the every increasing arcadyness and willingness to let bugs persist are what is making so many people move to BF. At leas...

Companies, especially companies like EA and Activision, will follow the money. If the Kickstarter drive is any indication this will have support. And like phones, it will then get developer support. All of the majors are beginning to do phone games. This just adds a controller. And a controller also means the ability for the developer to do a more dynamic game. No more moving the phone back and forth or up and down.
