Holy crap! Someone else see's the light! You sir get a bubble for stating the truth. Yes it has indeed pushed their developement skills to the limit. Unfortunately that limit as exhibited by this article is short is a very low bar and they need help in the "how to" dept.
The answer to this? LAZY DEVS.
@Thor
If they designed their engine to use a lot of memory, time for a redesign. Write elegant code that uses a small footprint instead of hacked crap that kinda works but is bloated to no end. There is no excuse for that other than laziness plain and simple.
@Agent VX
The hardware in the PS3 is indeed superior from a processor and memory standpoint. The problem is devs code for the greatest common denomin...
I generally trust IGN for their scoring of games but like I said in a previous post this is a bit harsh. The game plays very well and is very solid from a gameplay standpoint. The graphics are good, not WOW, but good. The server side issues have all but disappeared as far as getting dropped, lag and disconnects. Client side received patch 1.20 but since day two of release I have personally not experienced any problems except for ONE system freeze. The gameplay is intense, can be very qui...
for once... I am speechless and not in a good way.
Granted the game isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination but is far from a 4.5. I have been playing along with friends since day 2 and have had ONE lockup and thats it. Since that lockup have been playing on avg 3-4 hours a pop, no drops, lag or any other issues people seem to have. An honest review would be a 7 or 7.5 which is what the game should garner in its' current state after the 1.20 patch.
@La Chance
I include the multiplats because they are new to the PS3 and offer something to a current or future owner of one. As for SOCOM yes I said SOCOM. I have been playing it since day two of release and have had only one problem where it locked up on me. Other than that it has been rock solid and stable. Yesterday Patch 1.20 was released and even though I haven't noticed any difference in performance I haven't heard or seen anything bad either. It is a very solid game a...
First Party:
LBP, R2, Motorstorm 2, Warhawk, GT5:P, SOCOM (yes I said SOCOM)
Third Party:
Bio Shock, Fallout 3, WKC, Valkyria Chronicles, Eternal Sonata
Then there is the Platinum Hits that are being offered for $29.99 for those new to the PS3 and haven't played them. All in all a very strong holiday lineup.
I expected this game to garner 90 - 95 on a 100 point scale. Been in the beta and it was phenominal but a 97 is just spectacular. Wonder how the rest of the sites will grade it?
Alright enough of your banter and BS. Here it is for you to mull over.
From X-Bit Labs.
"Intel Corp., has unveiled several new details about its so-called Teraflops research chip, which demonstrates Intel’s ability to pack 80 processing cores into a single piece of silicon and provides ability to analyze the bahaviour of certain new technologies required to make such processors. But while the chip has floating point performance that exceeds that of IBM’s Cell b...
The PS3 is the furthest thing from a commodity PC. It is using some of the most cutting edge technologies from the XDR RAM to the Cell processor. The XBox and XBox 360 are no more or less a mid range x86 based PC built using commonly available commodity parts. Another reason the unit is prone to heat failure, AKA RRoD, is due to the use of cheap commodity parts. The parts: Processor, memory, graphics chip require massive amounts of cooling that unfortunately the Xbox 360 has little room f...
Please tell me you didn't compare an x86 to a Cell processor. That is just not a very good idea seeing that the cell is arguably one of the most exciting processors to have been designed since the DEC Alpha. The Cell is superior to any current gen. x86 in every way, shape and form. Not to mention IBM has already designed and produced a new Cell for use in supercomputers which is far more powerful. The Cell 2, for lack of a better name, is being taped out within 2009 and should be in full ...
Microsoft made the only real mistake and that was entering a business they really have no business being in. The console market has been and always will be dominated by the Japanese houses like Nintendo and Sony. Microsoft is trying to bring their large corporate practices as well as trying to reinvent the console into more of PC as far as software developement, with their proposed forward compatibility. You were able to see it from the original XBox that MS had no real interest in the gam...
@Why o Why
Not only have the youngsters picked up they are actually pretty darned good for their ages respectively. Sad thing is my older one finished Star Wars:TFU before I did and it was my anniversary present... :(
Now the younger while not as adept at action adventure can kick some serious ass in a FPS. He was leading people with rocket launchers in UT3 since day one! Between the PS3s/PS2s/Wii and the PSPs/DSs in the house there is a TON of games to play. Pro...
Microsoft coming out with shady adverts? NO WAY!

I need more time!!! Damnit! This whole work thing and kids and all are getting in the way of my gaming! It's bad enough SOCOM, CoD4, Warhawk and LBP have been eating up my time. Next week Fallout 3 and Resistance 2 are coming home.. ugh. Damned responsibilities. Now this guy has to remind me of GOW3, Infamous, Heavy Rain, Killzone 2 and MAG. Whoever said growing up was a good thing.. LIED.
You are right we get what we pay for. Whether we bought a PS3 or a XBox 360 still have something a PC gamer doesn't. Extra money in our wallets, the ability to sit on a big comfy couch w/ a beer playing games with our wireless controllers and one last thing. The comfort in knowing that we don't have to worry about our consoles having the right drivers, version of .NET or Silverlight, DirectX and non-stop need to upgrade the PC to run the latest and greatest as well as use tons of resources...
DRM/Copy Protection in any form is just plain WRONG especially when it dictates what hardware you need to listen to music or watch a movie. The fact that early adopters of the XBox 360 catch it in the ass sucks. Not only that but even if you have a new Jasper based unit and are not using the HDMI output to a display you're screwed too it seems. When will companies learn that DRM of any kind is just a waste and a hinderance?
for someone to get some screens with a properly adjusted HDTV and PS3 set correctly via HDMI. Something just doesn't look right at all. I have to wait until next week to get my copy so if anyone has the time it would be appreciated.
Blu-Ray was dying?
/end sarcasm
Prediction: Next article from Don Reisinger at CNet will be something about Blu-Ray dying a miserable death.
What a bunch of retards. What they have done by stopping game rentals is increased the rate of software piracy by at least 1,000%. I will never understand these absurd decisions.
