Another reminder why I respect the folks at Sony. Very positive upbeat interview without ANY bashing of the opposition at all. The only other folks capable of an interview like that are Nintendo. If that were MS there would be nothing but chest beating and bashing the competition in one form or another. That's their way of doing things and always has been, FUD and insults. This is why I haven't owned or used a MS product since the late 80's.

The job cuts are in the less profitable depts. and growth limited. Sony recently closed two VHS plants in asia. Also a note from the article
"To clarify, the 8,000 job cuts are in reference to contract workers in the electronics division."
This leads me to believe that the job cuts are coming from the consumer electronics division. All in all not good but SCE will remain intact.

Yes. When adding FY 2007 and 2008 SCE posted a 3.39 Billion USD loss but as I stated in my post below YoY is becoming more profitable and with current sales should be in the black FY 2009.
After looking into it I found that SCE FY 2008 which closed on March 2008 posted a 1.18 billion USD loss down from 2.21 billion USD FY 2007. Based on sales and reduced manufacturing costs FY 2009 which closes March 2009 SCE should be in the black.

The global economy is getting beaten down and Sony is just the latest victim of the effects of this recession. Everyone from multi-billion dollar corporations to mom and pop shops are getting hit hard. What we need is less stupidity and maybe a little more empathy towards those that lost their job due to the current economic climate.

This article is non-sensical at best and looking for hits. You make very valid points in overall sales of console exclusives on the PS3. MGS 4 Mil+, LBP 1 Mil+, GT5:P aprrox. 2.4 Mil, Uncharted 2 Mil+. That doesn't include the third party multiplats which are on par for most titles and sometimes better, PES 2008, PES 2009, DMC, Tomb Raider as examples. As for the other exclusives released this year they are still selling and will have the same legs their predecessors did.

The PS3 ads have been increasing daily and on all networks. From commercial TV to cable channels Sony has something running on them all. I generally catch 4 or 5 adverts daily while channel surfing so they have stayed true to their word about the ad campaign going live on Dec. 1st.
Not bad. The ones I say the author is off on is the iPhone, PS3 and OLPC. The OLPC in particular was a huge catalyst for the $299 - $399 netbook market that's emerging now.

What!? I have had a PSP since day one and I still have it and use it daily. GTA, Untold Legends, Midnight Club, Loco Roco, Patapon, Final Fantasy, God of War, SOCOM, Killzone Liberation, etc.. EXCELLENT games library for anyone that likes games. Not to mention MP3 player and portable movie player when I am traveling and feel like a distraction other than gaming.
