Your right about not being able to compare Fear 2 to Killzone 2, Fear is better in every way other than graphics. I mean a fps with an amazing story, I was begining to think it wasn't possible. Even without that you have the atmosphere that goes from scary as hell to adreniline rush in the blink of an eye and then mixes the two!

Once the developers know the limitations of the system it comes down to where you allocate resources. A game like Red Faction needs the best physics possible while GoW3 needs to push harder in the graphics department. I don't really see any of the current systems far surpassing what we have already witnessed, yes we will have far more polished games but none that just drop your jaw (unless it involves story which is saddly what's been at the short end of the stick lately).
(Playing devils advocate here) You could take it that he means Halo has more community suport than all those games combined. Think about it this way, without that type of suport Mario would have died off long long ago. Yep, Heavy Rain sold so many more because it is so much better than Alan Wake. Sales kinda go in hand with something being what people want.

The only characters I really didn't want to die in a FPS were the ones in the CoD series. Say what you will but when Ghost was killed I bloody screamed at the screen. The Halo games weren't much for story IMO but geared more towards co-op, but I do love the books and what the Halo community has made (Red vs Blue).

Exclusives are great but even in dry spells there's always third party games like BC2 (which made me sell my copy of MW2). It's interesting how two great single player exclusives come out one right after another, Mass Effect 2 and God of War III. I'm glad they don't push them at the same time so some of us can get both since we have both consoles (I picked FF XIII over GoW III, don't hate just not my style).
I'm pretty sure the release of the next xbox will be the end of the current one...

The thing that sold the Wii was the fact that it had better graphics than the PS2 (which was what most people were upgrading from) and like the comment above, it was cheaper.

Funny, I wont be playing any of those games. March is all about Supreme Commander 2 for me. I might pick up FFXIII but it's hard to justify $60 on a probable 1 play through game.
Fear 2, both MW2 and KZ2 were really flashy which works some of the time but if I have to choose a game with 2 in it I'm going with Fear 2!
