@JoGam
So I'm I... not that I really need it, I already have a LAN, but just to tinker with it in front of the TV and to support Valve. Valve is a good company that gives us gamers value for our money and they don't try to nickel & dime us to death.
Plus I'm a Linux nut and finally getting rid of M$ would be my dream come true. So I'm going to support the penguin!
Most likely those $99 units will streaming units kind of like the Nvidia Shield.
You people thinking about it all wrong!
Reading so many of these articles & comments on Valves new box and people are not getting the real benefit a Steam Box would bring????
The hardware aspect is just a way to a means... the real story hear is the ecosystems & cost effective savings it will bring to console gamers!
Say the box does cost $700 to $1000 up front, think about the savings in game purchases in the future and not to mentio...
Good one onyoursistersback, I haven't paid for cable or satellite in 2+ years and I never miss a show or movie I really want to watch (not that there's much modern TV that's worth watching). Also, I haven't seen a commercial or ad in the same time frame.
My big issue with XBL ads is that they don't put that money back into games for their customers they just pay content providers for more media content and turning into a internet cable box. M$ use to have ...
I don't have a 360 but that would bother me a lot, consider that I would already be paying them annually (cash flow) for their service. Now for Silver members I can totally understand the ads overload!
True, but I would like the official, Steambuntu distro version (kind of like Mythbuntu http://www.mythbuntu.org/)! I know that's what will be on the Steam Boxes. It'll be stripped down for only Steam, web surfing and media playback. All the other overhead will be removed. And yes I do realize I can do that now.
From what I've read that the Steam boxes will also be able to be used in regular Steam mode not just Big Picture mode, using a regular keyboard & mouse, so you don't necessarily need to use just a gamepad.
The unit will definitely have some sort of graphic card control app made by Nvidia or AMD, so setting your resolution to 720p or 1080p won't be a problem. Keep in mind the reason I say this is, it's common sense, if they are going to have a modular unit...
These boxes are nice & all. However, what I really want to know is if Valve will release their Steam Linux OS to it's (power) users like myself? where I can basically build my own Steambox with off the shelf parts.
Hardware is hardware, and can be purchased in all shapes & sizes and I can easily build something cheaper with high-end specs. What's the most important to me is the software (the OS) and the game engines, that's what I'm more interested in...
Agreed! But with the present price of hardware and the projected specs, I expect the price will be somewhat higher... say $449 upwards to $649.
You do realize that you end up paying more for your mobile device when you do subscriptions long term contracts, at least that's the case here in Canada. Plus I don't want to be locked into any kind of a contract period, because after you have paid off your hardware, most times they still are charging you the monthly fees (most times the fees are hidden).
What if you're unhappy with your hardware or service after a few months, what do you do? You are obviously loc...
Correction Please!
It will be able to be used with a keyboard & mouse as it will also be able to be use with the regular Steam interface as well.
I read that on one of the press releases. I can't for the life of me find it right now, as I've read so many PR's from so many sites.
LOL! The Hackintosh is a PC and not an actual Mac. It's actually cost me $800 for the parts. Which includes the OS, yes it's not a pirated version.
BTW, I have my own IT Biz I run from home, that's the reason for the overkill on hadware... lots of testing!
Edit below:
To me it means the other way around.

I'm one that's been using linux for a very long time. I presently have,

Bioshock looks like it will be interesting but my top shooter I'm looking forward to is ArmA 3! The rest of those games will be more of the same, not that, that's good or bad, just the same type of experience we've come to expect & played a thousand times before.
Some others that I have my eye on are Ground Branch, Takedown, Interstellar Marines & what I believe to be the true Socom successor, H-Hour. There will be a very, very low chance of these games b...
Thanks Nevers!
For me I'm sticking with the PC next-gen, no console can beat it. Consoles are technically behind as soon as they launch, while PC's keep pushing gaming technology forward.
The one console developer I will missed dearly next-gen is Naughty Dog. They are the ones that gave me the most memorable console gaming experience in this present-gen.
The other devs/games I can pass up and not feel any effects. Although I would li...
Here's what Sony & M$ are going to do...
They will sell their consoles without the banned games tech at first, then implement it when they have a pretty good userbase (maybe around the 30 million mark). That way people who already bought it are stuck!
These companies aren't stupid, they won't screw you right off the bat, that would be suicide, they'll do it slowly. Both Sony & M$ have done that this gen!
"Seriously, how in the world do you get video games being from the devil from that one quote? Nonsense..."
Have you ever heard of a saying, "the greatest trick the devil ever pulled off, was convincing the world he didn't exist"... it's not just a saying. When you draw your last breath, you as all of us will finally know the absolute truth... good & bad!
Video games were derived from television + computers. If you can fine the ...
I'm amazed at many of the comments when it comes to accusations like these. Often, the first thing they say is, "well I've played violent games all my life & I don't kill anyone".
Yet, people don't do their due diligence and REALLY researched the topic of mind control, subconscious mind programming & brainwashing... hint; repetitiveness is the key! It's real & many governments (especially the US gov) knows this.

Well, I downloaded & play it on my PC for all of 10 minutes and then hit the uninstall button. For me it was a lagg fest of pretty graphics. I guess it's just my hate for cloaking games and environments where your enemies blend into the scenery (even without the cloaking). It was just not for me, but others may enjoy it.
