Well...I like the direction is going, but when you launch many games on Day 1 these days, if you downloaded or are installing, a Day 1 patch is the first thing you have to do. This may have been resolved with the Series X/S, but that has been my experience with my One X.
@Flewid638:
I can't totally disagree with that comment. I felt the same way. It seemed like every other game involved blowing shit up. Granted, very many games have this as a core, but one of the things I like about modern gaming and Game Pass in particular, is that it gives a big variety of games and genres I might not always try. Personally I enjoy many FPS games, but sometimes I at least like to have the opportunity to build something before I blow it up.
I think people anticipate things they have never seen all the time. For example: Maybe there is a food or meal that you have never had before, but you have heard or read a lot about it. Just like if there is a game that people have been talking and writing about for along time. After awhile you have heard so much about this that you are eager to know more and eventually EXPERIENCE for real , not what you think it will hope and be like because that is what you have HEARD.
Obviously they made more money from PS, they had a much higher install base last gen. I'm pretty sure MS is aware of it and won't lose 5 seconds of sleep over it.
They have the money to try to buy themselves out of the situation, so that is what they are trying. Not saying it's going to work, or is even a good idea, but that is their POV. As someone else mentioned, when all the Sony people are screaming about how Xbox sucks because they have no exclusives, I guess they do now. Sometimes when you yell loud enough someone actually tries to fix the problem, it just isn't how you wanted it to be fixed.
"So please help me understand...developer-wise... GAMING-wise...NOT business-wise...what is Xbox contributing and fostering within the gaming landscape?"
I don't think you can separate the two issues. There are no developers without the business side and no business side without the developers. It might be a great philosophical discussion, but when global gaming revenue reaches 190 BILLION dollars a year, it's always about the business
I'm not sure how to explain this so people will understand, so I will try to break it down. I'm not making any comparison in quality, just examples of what I am talking about.
With cell phones there is IOS and Android, two ways of basically doing the same thing with basically the same equipment.
With game CONSOLES you have MS and PS, basically the same equipment doing the same thing.
With COMPUTERS you have Apple and PC, again,...
I have both. I just prefer the convenience of a console. I also have a very old, basic rig, as I only use it for limited internet browsing. I have no desire to have to deal with all of the issues that come with PC gaming. Upgrading equipment to keep up with the demands of the latest software is not something I have any desire to mess with. I know with a console, though it may not be the absolute best, bleeding edge, version of the game, it will run well on my console and has been optimiz...
That's why hundreds of games are released every year. There is something for everyone
Won't have to, they are part of Xbox Game Studios now. MS can eat that loss as an accounting error.
I really don't see how it could be anything but Starfield. Maybe it is just on this board, but there has been non-stop talk about this game for years, and it really heated up when MS bought Bethesda. Exclusive or not??? That is the question the world was waiting for an official answer to. We got the official answer, like it or not. I think there was a lot more anticipation to that question than Halo 20, or whatever it is. Everyone knows it's pretty much going to be the same thin...
The issue is that BOTH machines have rather small SSD drives included with the console. In order to play the game ON EITHER SYSTEM it has to be played off that internal SSD, that currently can not be expanded. Sony has plans to enable the replacement of their internal SSD to a larger one. It doesn't appear that MS will do that. However they did LAUNCH with the ability to add additional useable SSD cards. However, they are propriety, and stupid expensive right now, especially after yo...
"That's actually not good for the industry as a whole. It's pretty clear Microsoft's strategy is that you subscribe to a service and never own the games you play."
I know that is a common comment, but I don't really know if it's true. So far developers seem to be accepting it as a new model. It is different, and it could be abused, but just because something is a new approach, doesn't automatically wrong. Time will tell.
I think that is the point that MS is trying to make, you don't HAVE to buy a new Xbox to enjoy MS offerings, that is just one option, the best option if you are a serious gamer, but not everyone they are trying to reach is a "serious gamer". PS is catering to the "serious gamer" crowd and if that works for you, great! It makes sense for MS to pivot. As the Sony fanboys here have been screaming for ever, Sony has been kicking MS's butt for years. The numbers don...
Your OPINION. Thanks for sharing.
BC is about old games working on new systems, not new games working on old systems. In order to truly harness the power of a new generation of technology games eventually need to be made exclusively for new systems or we will never see the best results. Granted MS SPECIFICLY said that they would support any first party releases on "last gen" consoles. They seem to have moved away from that as many people predicted. BC is alive and well on the new systems, they just changed their...
That is a great point that I haven't seen mentioned by anyone else. I think you are right about PS NOW being stream only and I constantly see fanboys comparing this favorably to GP. Can't really have it both ways
All early tech has it's struggles. Give it time
Wow, to be a fly on the wall of so many corporate board rooms. Microsoft, Sony, MLB, those are some heavy hitters to have that kind of detailed inside information. Impressive!!
