"So then why are not all games launching on game pass if it's such a slam dunk? Seems it would be no brainer if that were true and not just a tricky marketing ploy."
I don't think all new releases are right for GP. For some of the really big releases it probably doesn't make much sense as they already have a built in audience. The only time those work is if they are MS first party or if MS is willing to pay a lot of upfront cash. ...
I think it is going to go the same way as music and movies. Most people will get their games this way, but there will still be some sort of physical media available. It will probably be the more expensive way to go and become more the land of the "hardcore gamer" and collector.
I still think that MS is in the middle of a very long play here.
The way I see it is that GP is primarily a play for new gamers, or at least new console gamers. Series S is an example of this. Is is underpowered? Sort of. It runs games pretty well, not perfectly, but it does run them. Mobile is one of the areas MS is hoping to pull subs from. Glitchy gaming is just something you deal with there, so perhaps the expectations aren't so high.

"Xbox" didn't acquire anything, Microsoft did and their profits absolutely dwarf those of either Sony or Nintendo. My point is that MS can operate their gaming division at a loss for as long as they want, they have that much money. What they are trying to do is take their gaming division and make it align better with their other ventures. MS is a software company, always has been, it is what they do best.
It will be interesting to watch.
I really think you are missing the point of the MS model. Now at this point, I can not say if it is a good model or will work, but they really don't care about selling systems that much anymore. Obviously you want to have a good system in the market, but their play is more about getting Game Pass available to more people, so they won't even need a "system" to play on.
Again, I'm not sure if this will work for them or not, it is a long term play, so w...
Don't really care about exclusives personally. Don't really care about who owns what system, for the most part they all do the same thing about equally. I just like playing the game, I don't understand all of the drama regarding exclusives. I guess it is just supposed to validate your choice of systems?? I'm seriously curious about this. I just don't get it, but perhaps I just don't have the passion for gaming that I did when I was younger.
That is assuming that it is essential to have a console that plays the all of the very latest games at the highest possible resolution. Not everyone is that kind of gamer. Who's to say that when the "slim" models come out that you won't just be attracted to the next new shiny thing and have to have it too.
That may be you, and I am not criticizing you for it, but the entire market does not have the same needs as you do, thus MS is presenting another lo...

This isn't necessarily directed to you, just the conversation
I really think that MS made a smart play here. They are looking to attract people to their platform. They have an offering available for "hardcore" gamers, unfortunately it is almost impossible for them to get ahold of, as is their competition.
However they do have an option that appeals to more "casual" gamers, of whom there are AL...
I did it just the other day. I had a 12 month Gold card that I bought for $60. I loaded that on first, then subscribed for one month of Ultimate. When I look at the subscription, it shows Ultimate paid through until the end of January 2023. I just did this on Christmas.
I think what he is saying is that 2 weeks isn't enough time if you want to plan your games. Personally I agree. As far as the point of leaving it shorter due to contract due to possible negotiations in progress seems unlikely at best. Just because the gave an expiration date for the game would not stop them from "extending" it. Stuff like that happens all the time.
Thanks, but it continues to be one of the best selling games to this day. I'm sure part is because of online, but lots of new people continue to play this game.
I'm not sure why anyone finds it surprising that this only lasted one year as an exclusive, being, as you said, it is a Bethesda title. I was mildly surprised that it became MS allowed it to go to Sony in the first place. Probably too much trouble to fight in court.
With GP Ultimate you can access games on mobile, PC or Xbox, all you need is a solid Wi-Fi connection. Personally I the reason I have a gaming console is to play games, so these options don't really interest me, but MS presents many more options for entry than any other service. Soon they will be building the Ap into TV's and other devices.
@Atticus_finch
"There will come a time when the only choice you have is to subscribe. Especially once all major publisher start their own sub service."
So what you are saying is that good games will cease to exist at that point??
Will all of these have to be re-purchased? Available on GP? Cool either way, just hadn't heard anything about that.
At least PS Now and Game Pass subscribers will get to play 1/3 for the trilogy. I guess at that point I'll decide if I want to invest any money in the other 2. Price will probably drop by then anyway.
Some cultures are more open to this than others, for example the US culture embraces whatever the "new shiny" thing of the moment is, hence the dominance of Chinese and Japanese brands here. Japan, in particular is a vary insular culture, sensitive to influences from other cultures. This also speaks to the resistance of Chinese and Korean products in Japan, even though they are very closer geographically, at least in the case of China.
There are many reasons for this, of ...
Not likely, as this is a remaster not a remake.
I do like the fact that GTA 3 is going to be available on PS Now and SA on Game Pass. I will definitely give SA a go on GP, if I like it I might spring for the whole package. Good marketing move RockStar!!
Fluff piece published by Bethsaida. I actually thought this was a third person report. Obviously Bethsaida is going to point out all of the great stuff they have.
