A paid Sony insider admitted that Spidey 3 single BD disk AND Spidey boxset COMBINED sold 130k. Sony's words.
Paramount said they sold 190k.
190k>130k.

But these are studios' numbers. We may never know the exact numbers. Being that Sony is beyond arogant, if they did sell more than TF, we would have heard it by now, and we would have heard that HD DVD is dead for the 5th time... or is that 6th time.
Remember that Neilson's data only is a SNAPSHOT of litt...

as in Walmart...
and because software sales don't happen overnight when hardware sells well.

To top it off, it was announced within 24 hrs and sold out within 15 minutes. Now tell me how price ISN'T a factor? Hell, even the Sony CEO is going off accidentally saying this 'war' will end in a stalemate.

Look also at what was released for the week on BD (Spidey 3 & boxset being the BIG sellers for HDM that week) where HD DVD didn't have anything great (Fac...

All we have are the studios numbers...

So Paramount said they sold 190k copies of TF on HD DVD

Sony said Spidey 3 is the best selling BD, and a Sony insider has mentioned that COMBINED Spider 3 and Spidey boxset on BD sold 130k.

So, based on the numbers, Transformers DID outsell Spidey 3.

For the record, the SD DVD for TF outsold Spidey 3's SD DVD by a ratio of 2:1. Don't expect a movie like Spidey 3 to break records and be noted as ...

but majority of those players were sold to Walmart...

Guess who DOESN'T report to Nielson's numbers and why Nielson's data is being heavily scrutinized for not including the store ;)

I expected both to really do well but combined boxset and Spidey 3 BD had a combined sale amount of 130k.

Ratatouille should do better. Cars will be up there as well but I'm not sure about both. Something tells me the demographic these 2 films go for are not the buyers market. I already know a few dads who are buying only the SD DVD copy due to their kids rooms having only a DVD player

BD+

Now that it was cracked so fast and so easily, what is Fox's main motive to stay exclusive?

As far as how 'easy' it is to change the system in BD+, BD stand alones had some issues already with Fox's first titles. Are we going to see more stand alones lock up or not play the disk until a firmware update is released for said player? or are we going to see how 'easy' BD+ is to crack again. It's the inevitable. You tell a hacker he/she can't crack a security syst...

How does 100gb disc benefit MOVIES?!?!
Last I checked most films fit on single layer disks for both formats, a good amount are on dual layer with plenty of space. Dual layer as in 30gb & 50gb. 100gb is NOT NEEDED for high def movies. It is a pissing contest and relevant to Blu-ray for where it started, as a storage medium for the PC market, NOT for movies. Sure you can pack an entire season onto 1 x 100gb disc but it'll cost more to the studio (which in turn costs more to the consu...

I do believe that we will see what I have been saying for months on end... Purple is the way. Embrace both. Be a movie fanboy, not a format fanboy.

sorry, I thought you said this site has turned into pro propaganda for HD DVD...

Oh wait, you did...

BAAAAAAHHAHAHHAHAH

Go look in EVERY HD DVD/BD thread. Most are in favor of blu but regardless of the thread topic, majority of the posts are from PS3 owners who want to make it seem like they support BD with their 2-3 movie purchases. You'll see A TON of 'hd dvd is dead' threads.

Embrace both and go purple. Be a movie and gaming fanboy, n...

if the topic at hand is in regards to movies? It's already been proven than for movies the added disc storage of 50gb & 100gb isn't needed.

As far as 'no good exclusives' comment, that's dependent to each person as each person has their own likes/dislikes. I'm one to watch Transformers or Fifth Element over and over but not one to watch Ratatouille or Happy Feet more than once.

HD DVD is easily keeping a steady trend in software sales (even compared to BD). ...

1. 70% of homes have HDTVs that do 720p/1080i.

2. Most can't even tell the difference between 1080i and 1080p.

3. A good 1080p HDTV will deinterlace a 1080i signal and output it to 1080p without any losses. Just like the above stated

Here's some fact. Ask anyone. I mean ANYONE. wether it be a neutral guy like me, a sony/BD fanboy or an hd dvd fanboy... SD DVDs are NOT comparable to High Def Movies. Not even close. You can not compare an upscaled SD fi...

Danja,
A given format can hold it's own per region. If US is the only place that were to adopt HD DVD it can do so by itself, likewise if Japan and EU were the only regions, separately, can be on it's own in that given region.
There isn't a "blu must win ALL regions to be successful" but most feel the need for it to be that way. For the record, the NA market is the most important one.

If TL51 can't be used on existing gen1 and gen2 players, the HD DVD forum will NOT approve it as a high def movie media for the format.
They do NOT need to tweak the laser head. It's already been hinted that it can work so we can expect it to be done via firmware if possible. Besides, THERE IS NO MOVIES ON HD DVD THAT NEEDS THE 51GB SPACE YET, IF EVER!
This all though is speculation, nothing is final.

As for the blu comments, just like TL51 is in feasibility stage...

Marbles, don't assume too much. There is no final word that the TL51 disks will work on current HD DVD players but note that Toshiba WILL NOT release it if it is not backwards compatible with ALL HD DVD players. Last I heard they were working out the details so we can assume the TL51 disks will come eventually.

Sadly, BDA made it seem like the profiles were going to be this great thing (and be on par with HD DVD) but as they got closer to the 1.1 deadline date they seemed to be...

They did from the get go. The second the PS3 dropped in price, stand alones needed to shift their market strategy in terms of pricing. Why would someone pay for an obsolete 1.0 profile BD stand alone for MORE than what a soon to be 1.1 compliant PS3? To add insult to injury, entry level HD DVD players are going for super cheap now ($100 clearance of gen2, <$200 gen3, soon to come uber cheap stand alones from China and Venturer).

6651d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

How are they getting owned?

Kmart still sells the PS3 so by nature, you can't be exclusive without dropping the game console.

I'm not one for stores, studios, and businesses to pick sides. I think everything should be offered everywhere and let the CONSUMER decide... blu wouldn't want that though since the masses go first to price and we all know... HD DVD hardware is far cheaper than BD hardware.

Now watch as all the Sony droids disagree with me
