i've said it before and i'll say it again. 5% of total movie sales are in HD. that's ONLY 5%. of that 5% there is a software market share of 60/40 split. 60/40! and since ALL ps3s are BR players, how come only 13% use it as a BR player? how come only a 60/40 split?
that means, based on your numbers, that 650k use their ps3s as a BR player while 400k stand alone hd dvd players use it for what it was designed for

PLEASE... do so, i would really like to hear about it. cuz last i checked, HD movies only sell 5% of all total movies, more stand alone players are for the HD DVD camp and the market share is split 60/40. if BR stand alones outsold HD DVD players and if market share were larger than 5% with a split of say 90/10 then yes i would say BR is in the final stretch to win but that's a dream youn sony guys have, this is reality. the war is about even, the victor can go either way

sales figures of hardware and software is leading a path to a stalemate in this format war. studios who are exclusive to one might make movies on both formats since business logic dictates more format = more money. it's only smart.

why stick to JUST 1 format if you can sell your movies across the board? 5% of total movies sold are in HD. granted it is slowly growing but of that 5% it's a 60-40, 65-35 split between BD and HD DVD, BR with the minor advantage. how could you sell more by sticking to one format if the market share is almost equal?

he raises a good point. if all ps3 owners used their systems as a movie player than sales for a very popular movie would be significantly higher. being that hd dvd players (including the add on) only do hd dvd playback (as well as cd, dvd, etc) then it is clear that stand alones play an interesting role in the high def war.
oh, and the 65-35 proves my point again that NO dominance is shown. hd dvd is NOT dead. the format war is NOT over. if anything this only backs up my theory...
and reason why i think soon as studios see the benefits of multiformats and not taking sides that business is business and there's ways to make money on both. then the format war will end up in a stalemate and the consumer will have to choose dvd, hd dvd, or bluray

one of the reasons i was iffy on web browsing on my tv was the typing. it's 200times better than console controller but still nothing like a keyboard.

i only know of 1 person who bought the film on BR and read a handful who bought it thanks to their ps3. but majority of buyers were hd dvd
then again, who's to say majority of ps3 owners who don't do forums didn't buy the movie on BR? afterall wasn't the last statistic 1.4mil of the 1.5 mil BR players were ps3s?
as a BR player. i don't know the whole specs but BR stand alones aren't worth it yet aside from the ps3. i was reading up some and the plans BR has for their stand alone hardware is coming out soon, just not the current ones in the market. ps3 > every other BR stand alone player
