I would argue that Microsoft's vision for the Xbox One as it was presented last year was so far out of touch with reality that it would have been ill-advised for them to stick to their guns and "make the consumer understand."
The fact is Microsoft presented a product that had a list of bullet points that very few people were interested in and clearly would have limited the Xbox One's market penetration.
Kinect is just one of many unneces...
Microsoft's message regarding Kinect may have been significantly different from Sony's message regarding Move, but that doesn't change the fact that both devices have never transcended the realm of "unnecessary."
In the end, dropping Kinect will have absolutely zero negative impact on the Xbox One as a console, even if it does amplify even further just how out of touch Microsoft was a year ago.
This latest move by Microsoft is just a...

Admittedly it was an unnecessarily spiteful comment. I'm just suffering from a bit of moodiness about Nintendo these days. Sometimes I can't help myself.
In truth I see a WiiU purchase in my future as an inevitability. Mario Kart 8 is just around the corner, I'm definitely interested in the Mario games that are already on the console, and I can see myself spending a ridiculous amount of money on the virtual console.

How is "drop out and go third-party" considered "horrible anti-Nintendo crap"?
All I ever hear from all the Nintendo faithful is how Nintendo's games are what set them apart from their competition. So how exactly does the concept of Nintendo focusing 100% of their effort on what makes them so great (their games) come across to people like you as some sort of hatred toward Nintendo?
I'm actually really interested in Mario games and I don't see much that the WiiU offers me.
I see Nintendo going 100% handheld in the future. It may be a handheld that also outputs to a TV, but I wouldn't be surprised if the next iteration of Nintendo's handheld replaces both the 3DS and the WiiU.
A Phantom Dust reboot would bring tears to my eyes. Unfortunately I don't expect anything at E3 will bring that level of emotion.
I'd be really surprised if she has any uncharted territory.
I've never understood how popular this argument has been.
In what imaginary universe do Xbox Live Gold subscribers just decide they'll continue using their Xbox without a Gold subscription? It's as if noone realizes how useless an Xbox is without a Gold subscription.
Wow, did you really just sum up the concept of "third party support" by citing a single franchise?
Here's a little tidbit for you to chew on that Nintendo clearly hasn't been able to wrap their heads around for a very long time.
"Third Party Support" = variety. The market thrives on variety, even if it seems like only a few key franchises ever make headlines.
As far as I'm concerned, if your console is po...
The Wii was a Wii Sports delivery device. It was lighting in a bottle. I will never understand people thinking that the Wii was in any way indicative of how the WiiU, or any other console, will turn out.
If you actually expect benevolence from any publically traded company you're bound to be disappointed.
Sales figures are the only language they will ever truly understand.
Fanboy rants on the internet don't really factor into any major corporation's planning. Sadly, neither does common sense a lot of times.
"being an indie dev with two games under your belt doesn't made you an instant expert on the industry."
Really, cuz it seems like there are a lot of people under the impression that all it takes to be an industry expert is to have an N4G account.
The N64 was the last bit of home console hardware that actually contributed anything unique and meaningful to Nintendo's software potential.
Gamecube was basically PS2/Xbox without a DVD player.
Wii and Wiiu, well they just kind of said to heck with Sony and Microsoft and decided to pretend that they were the only people in the video game business. It worked (financially) for the Wii, not so much so far with the WiiU.
Since the N64...
A carbon copy of the PS4 hardware with a Nintendo logo and Nintendo's software lineup would sell like hotcakes and have plenty of third party support. Availability of GDDR5 notwithstanding.
In my opinion.
On the surface Destiny looks alot like a Borderlands style game that actually plays like Halo and has MMO elements thrown in for good measure.
I realize that's not for everyone, but how the heck does anyone think that formula is anywhere near a failure?
I'm thinking we're beginning to see the tip of the bandwagon hate iceberg that's inevitable every time any huge new game comes around.
"I don't care about 1 year head start, because 360 had 1 year head start over PS3, and 360 fanboys were quick to dismiss that reasoning."
So the reason you don't consider a year head start relevant is because a group of individuals you refer to as "fanboys" used the same failed logic?
You might as well say Knack is a far better selling game than Mario Kart 8.
Cuz, you know, sales figures aren't in any way...
"People rarely buy Nintendo hardware for multiplatform games"
It's this mindless dedication to mediocrity that never ceases to baffle me about the current Nintendo faithful. It's as if the days of the NES and SNES just never happened.
"Destiny's Filthy Toilet"
"I don’t care about Destiny. At all."
This "article" is just glowing with objectivity./s
The death of "Microsoft's grand console ambitions" as was presented last year is the only way Microsoft would have any future in the console business.
The failure of those ambitions is a victory for the Xbox's future.
