Epic helping him market and sell it, and taking their fair cut of the proceeds? Game companies are (slowly) learning to embrace third-party games and the occasional bit of homebrew; how is this different? Granted, he didn't get their permission, and he planned to sell it, and that violates a number of copyright laws. But rather than sue him, meet him halfway: Commission him (and others) to make original art, either for download or purchasable print art, help them market it, charge a reasonabl...
After struggling through a tough level or sweating out that boss battle, nothing is as sweet as that sound. Also, as I've said before, achievements are the gaming equivalent of crack. PS3 gamers, when you get your trophies, you'll know what I mean.
Terry Gilliam's Don Quixote film...what almost was.
However, if they have a respectable amount of the game finished, this could still be great, even if it's online only.

OMG.
Put Halo 3 on THAT bad boy and see what happens!
Just out of curiosity, what would something like that cost? Weigh? How would you display/mount it?
Agreed, on many of your points. My concern is with how easily this could get out of hand. Yes, the real tracks have those ads. Yes, ads are an everyday part of life. I'm just worried that with MS buying Massive, and in-game ads becoming more and more common, games may become as oversaturated with ads as your average website.
Of course, one COULD classify the Burger King games as advertisements.
Agreed.
But one tiny problem...notice the Coke ad? Is this the beginning of video games being saturated with ads?
Of course, when you're blazing past them at 200 MPH, who cares?
A friend who bought MGS: Acid at full price. That made him cry. (Not literally, but he was pretty pi$$ed).
When?

The suspense is killing me!
Look at the number of games forthcoming for the system in North America: You can count them on one (maybe two) hand. Sales have evaporated since Christmas, and the DS, with its clever interface and backwards compatibility with GBA games, has become the handheld of choice.
Better late than never, I suppose. But let's not have a half-@ssed HL port. Valve is known for dynamic gameplay and great concepts; how about something unusual and unique for a system that's unusual and unique?
They're far more available now than a few months ago, although the Wii has stayed in short supply. The PS3 market is down primarily because the surge of demand--and excessive price gouging--after the launch has also died due to greater supply. The only systems that should sell now are the ones with good premiums; i.e. extra controllers, games, et al.
kottke.org's wii t-shirt: "Real men Wii standing up." Check it out.
(I swear, that's my last Wii joke!)
Can't make a good joke about a "snack wrap" or a "fusion." But Wii...haven't we all had a good time with that one? It's easy to remember, too--I mean, how many times a day do you...wii?
(Couldn't resist)
Nintendo should try it, too. Can't hurt. And should help sales of both disc and VC games.
But how's the gamplay? Eye candy will only take you so far; I mean, most of the article was about the GRASS. Not the cars, not customization options, not tracks or other features. I'm not knocking it, but do remember that Codemasters has a sketchy history when it comes to games. However, if they can pull this one off, more power to them.
Like them or not, Sony HAS set the standard for the last 2 generations. It's up to MS and Nintendo to try to unseat them. I think this generation ends up being roughly a three-way tie. Good for gamers, and good for the industry.
Wow, that already makes it more mature than some of the people playing it!
Seriously, MS has reason to celebrate: Live is thriving, and has set the industry standard for others to follow.
More classics, more original titles. Maybe they need to pull a Nintendo and buy someone's old library and release some of the better titles. OR: They already have Doom. What about other id games like Quake? Hexen? Also, more games like Alien Hominid would be welcomed.
This article (and others) denotes low expectations and demand.
Other articles say the demand is at a record high, pre-orders are sold out, they won't have consoles for months afterwards, etc.
After March 23rd, and certainly after a month, we'll have an idea. Until then, take all of this with a grain of salt.
