Gameplay, THEN graphics.

Bear in mind that the online portions of Halo 2 weren't as graphically enhanced as the campaign mode...the online mode was more about gameplay (outstanding) than graphics (pretty good).

So these shots are from a BETA version of the ONLINE mode.

In other words, expect the online mode to improve graphically by the time the game launches.

And, expect the Campaign mode to be even better.

Will it ...

I have no doubt that if Sony drops the price on the PS3, then MS will respond with a price cut on the Pro system (and maybe even the Elite, which won't stand up as well to a $499 60GB PS3).

MS has cut costs to the point that they can afford to trim the price on the 360, though it would further delay the day when they can say that their games division is profitable. (That might never happen, but Bill Gates can afford it).

A PS3 price cut wouldn't necessarily hurt...

Which is why most retailers limit people to one system, to try and prevent that sort of abuse. No way in hell would my store allow someone to buy 16 Wiis. Hell, we have plenty of 360s and PS3s, and we have a limit of three on those.

Evaluating the 360:

Positives:

GREAT lineup of games, with many, many more to come. Definitely a bright spot for the system. No matter how good/powerful your system is, it's moot if you don't have the games to back it up.

Xbox Live: I can't believe people complain about paying $50/year for Xbox Live. When a service is this good, $50 is a bargain. It's the standard for all others to follow.

IPTV: This has tremendous potential when i...

There have been 25 Army Men games?!? Talk about running a franchise into the ground! The concept was played out a looooong time ago, although the games still sell probably because they're usually cheap ($20-30, sometime less).

Dynasty Warriors: Retire this before it gets any worse.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms: I have a friend who swears by these games. I see this game and I think..."Wow, this would have been great...in 1998."

Gundam has...

Some EB and GameStop stores in the St. Louis area received them on Monday or Tuesday. Best Buy might have some on Thursday. Hopefully, this is a sign that the shortages are starting to ease.

He's partially right. The system is still less than six months old, and only has a few truly desirable games. Sluggish sales aren't surprising at this point.

But I think we'll know the system's status as a success or failure before two years are up. If the PS3 doesn't find major success this Christmas, then Sony will have some issues on their hands. And, if the system doesn't catch fire after some of 08's AAA releases (likely to be MGS4, FFXIII, GT5, and such), then they're in...

You may be right.

However, four delayed games from a 360 owner's perspective:

It's not so much to defend Kotaku as it is to curtail JT.

How about an "Anti-Jack Thompson Fund?"

Assuming it comes true, it does make sense. Playstation gamers are more receptive to RPGs, as are Japanese gamers. It would probably do well on the PS3.

As a parent, I can understand where he's coming from.

(Hear me out before igniting your flamethrowers)

I'm concerned about the rising level of violence and mature content in games, movies, and music.

However, nutcases like Jack Thompson want to throw the baby out with the bathwater. He wants all-out censorship (much like what's happening in Germany right now) rather than allowing the industry to address this issue itself.

Like many...

Even though these numbers are for Japan, I'm sure that the North American numbers will be similar. Great year for gamers, and this year is shaping up to be even better.

September...I'm officially depressed.

Well, I've always held the belief that staying in place and failing to adapt leads to stagnation and death. Evolution has taught us that.

That said, I wonder why MS would even consider this, especially in light of the Elite's imminent release. Some see the Elite as a "response" to Sony's PS3 and its HDMI/larger HD. (I don't, but that's just my opinion).

What would this new system offer? Built-in Wifi is a must(should have happened by now). Bigger HD? 25...

Reasons why this will be great:

1. It's Halo. Nuff said. The Halo universe is diverse enough to maybe franchise this. (Let's see how the first one turns out before any sequels).

2. It's an RTS, made by the same people who did Age of Empires.

Following Halo 3 with this...can't wait.

Yet another reason I'm avoiding Vista until MS finishes "beta testing" it on those who've already purchased it.

As someone who played the pen-and-paper game that inspired it in college, I have to say that I'm actually looking forward to this game. As long as I can play a Cyber-Mage, I'll enjoy it. The mix of spells and bullets and the ability to greatly customize (you CAN still do this, right?) your character could make this game an interesting mix of shooter and RPG...

I think you might have misspoke...the Wii has significant demand; it's supply they're having problems with.

Does anyone know why?

6906d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Well, MS does need to make a profit on their peripherals...that's how business works. But that seems extreme...quite a markup there...and as I've stated before, they should have sold the new 120GB drive at $129. Yes, it's less profit at once, but I'll bet that they'd sell more units at that price and recoup the same number of total gross margin dollars that they would have at the $179 price point.

I mean, $50 gets you a one-year Live subscription, or (most) of a new game (espe...

Ouch.

That's going to disappoint those looking forward to what has been an excellent shooter for 360 and PC.

Now, here's the question:

Is this game's subpar rating due to it being a 360 port, or due to some other factor within the PS3? (GPU, as one of my PS3-owning friends believes?)

The best way to answer that: Wait for a game developed for the PS3 and THEN ported to the 360, and see how well it goes in reverse. That might answer t...

Seriously, I haven't sold a PS3 at my store in 2 weeks...we're still sitting on the same two-dozen or so that we've had for nearly a month.

Just one example from one store in one large city. Don't flame me; I'm only stating what I'm seeing.

If there are supply constraints, they're not affecting us.
