"There are, without a doubt, a number of people who bought a PS3 and are testing out the Blu-ray movie player as a novelty. The PS3 counts for more than 75% of all BD players that have been sold, and when this novelty wears off for the non-enthusiasts, it may not be on such an elevated playing ground anymore."

Interesting statement.

Now here's my question:

If you ignore the PS3 and HD add-on for the 360, how are sales of stand-alone Bl...

My store received ours on Wednesday, though we won't be selling them until the 29th. One thing I saw that I liked: A black wireless controller packed with a black play and charge kit. Looks like a good value.

It's a movie-based title, which means there's a better than average chance it'll stink. 1080p? That's like polishing a turd.

The game industry seems to have adopted Hollywood's model of sequels and spin-offs. When the best-selling game year after year is EA's latest rehash of Madden, and when there are a large number of games in development that have a number in their titles (i.e. sequels), then you know that an industry is in danger of stagnation. Games like Flow, Okami, and Katamari get the awards for creativity and originality, but none of them can approach the sales number of Madden or FFXII.

Since I can't have Motorstorm on my 360, I guess I'll have to "settle" for this. Settle, indeed! Looks great, and although it MAY not be as good as Motorstorm (won't know until it releases), at worst it's a close second, at least based on what we've seen so far.

...and I agree with most of this article. Another sku to confuse customers and retailers, all to add things they should have in the first place: HDMI and a decent-sized HD, not to mentions wifi--just $10 more, MS. $10 is chump change for a company that size.

I do agree with MS's decision to exclude a built-in HD-DVD player; if that format ends up failing, then no real loss. They can still use DVD for a while longer, especially since compression technologies are getting better ...

Colors that match Covenant blood...Hunter orange, Elite purple, Flood green (if that nasty ichor can be called blood).

"Purple Pwnage." I can just see someone coming up with THAT one!

I know what you mean: I look at games like Lair, Motorstorm, and Heavenly Sword and wish I could play them on my 360. *Sigh* I guess I'll have to make do with Mass Effect, BioShock, and Halo 3.

Not bad "consolation prizes," eh? :)

Of course, if you buy a PS3, you'll get the best of both worlds.

Here's what I can say from what I see at my store:

PS2 is still outselling everything except Wii (which we never seem to have, so it's not really a good comparison)

We go through about 2 dozen 360s a week. (Bear in mind that 3 or 4 of those are exchanges/replacements covered by replacement plans)

I haven't sold a PS3 in a week and a half, and I spend 30+ hours each week just in games. However, PS3 sales seem to come in spurts: I'll probably sell si...

1. The wifi seems to be compatible with all wireless routers that I've seen/read about. I would recommend Netgear personally, though Linksys is solid (assuming you don't already have a wireless router). Connection is pretty simple...the PS3 does most of the work for you.

2. Yes, it will play regular DVD movies.

Don't forget that the PS3 does NOT come with any kind of HD cables, so HDMI is recommended (if your TV supports it). If not, Psyclone component cables are...

That was IMPRESSIVE. Even though the animation is very basic, it's EXTREMELY well-choreographed, and impressively directed. Someone hire this guy.

"Master Chick." LOL!

I'll probably go broke.

I'll definitely have fun.

Let the games begin!

"Disastrous endeavor?" That's awfully harsh, and definitely incorrect.

Bear in mind that their Entertainment division isn't just games; it's also the (so far) unsuccessful Zune. That--not the 360--accounts for much of their recent losses.

There's no doubt that MS hemorrhaged money on the original Xbox. But it served its purpose: Make a dent in the market, and establish a user base to expand upon. They were also prescient in launching an excellent, comp...

He's right. Exclusives are probably going to be the best measure of a system's true capabilities. Look at Gears of War, for example. Great gameplay, and a visual treat that is easily on of the best looking games ever, for any system or PC.

That said, I think the best is yet to come for the 360, and for the PS3. We'll see it when games like Halo 3, Alan Wake, and BioShock hit the 360. We'll also see what the PS3 is capable of when FFXIII, Heavenly Sword, and Gran Turismo 5 are r...

Well, Sony's struggling right now (look at the losses in their most recent financial report), and this may be a temporary cost-cutting measure. As I've said before, Sony's one of the few companies capable of weathering this kind of financial crisis. Hopefully for those employed by Sony, this will be the only layoff needed.

At least they're finally admitting it. Gamers harped on and on about the system scratching their discs (without moving the system, as MS alleged), and I think someone finally listened. It's just like the problem with their defective systems...first, they extended their warranty to a year, and second, added free shipping and an additional warranty on the repaired unit.

No, I'm not knocking MS or playing the fanboy (I remember the early defective PS2s quite well). But this is an...

Perfectly stated. There are a lot of positives for each system, and although I prefer my 360, there are some things the PS3 offers that I would enjoy. Only fanboys can't appreciate that.

This article is mere opinion, and a mostly uninformed one, at that.

However, it does raise some valid points:

The PS2 is still an amazing seller, and HAS been outperforming everything else. That's true. But what people seem to forget is that the PS2 costs less than $150...easily more affordable than the 360, PS3, and even the Wii.

Of course it'll sell more units: IT COSTS LESS!

It's an established system with thousands of games, an...

Naw, it'll be microwave TV...cooks your food while you watch...perfect for us lazy Americans. :)

Or UV TV: Tans you while you watch.

Or MRI TV: Diagnose that nasty colon cancer while eating fatty, colon-clogging fast food.

On a serious note...this sounds great. Yes, it'll be expensive at first, but if costs drop quickly as expected, this may only take a couple of years to catch on.

Other than fanboys, who cares?

HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO SAY THIS:

Enjoy the game on the console/PC of your choice. Stop nitpicking.

Yes, I think the 360 shots hold up pretty well when compared to the PC. That said, I suspect that the same could be said of the PS3, if there was a PS3 version of the game.
