If Nintendo had more 3rd party support it wouldn't have taken 14 years for one to be at the top.

No it doesn't. It means that Nintendo has a history of not having a ton of 3rd party games.
Considering they basically had to start over from scratch on Metroid only a few months back I really don't expect to see anything for that, unfortunately. I would love a Remastered Metroid Prime Triligy though as I've only played the original.
I don't think anyone is giving them a free pass. I'm sure you've seen how many people online hated Destiny 1 and 2 for the exact reasons you mentioned.

It's one thing to buy a game that isn't expected to suck, or isn't made by a crappy company and have it turn out to be terrible.

Diablo 3 was awful when it launched. As crazy as it sounds it didn't get good until the console version came out. It took them getting rid of the Auction House and fixing the loot to become good. And then it kept getting better from there.
Now Diablo 3 is actually an awesome game. But it should never have had this kind of struggle to begin with.
The only thing I don't like about it now is how the characters don't have a basic melee attack with...

FF7 was like 4 discs on PS1. That's nothing on blu-rays today. So I'm not sure how each episode can provide as much content as a full game and still need to be released in episodes in order to tell the whole story. It doesn't add up. Sounds like there will be a bunch of BS that wasn't in the original. Either that or each episode will not be as long as people think.

Even if that's true, how would it not still be episodic? If all the parts together equal the full story of FF7 then its episodic. It doesn't matter how big each episode is.
No it hasn't. If the ridiculous mobile game showed us anything it's that people still want a new Diablo. That in itself means it's still relevant. Blizzard is making D4. It just takes them a ridiculous amount of time to make new games.
