I would have to say that is on your kids then. It sounds like they only like a small amount of games.
Being bored of Mario and Zelda does not mean there are not plenty of games geared toward kids. Mario Kart. Just Dance. Pokken Tournament. Lego Marvel. Lego Worlds. Mario vs Rabbids. Just to name a few off the top of my head.
The system is new. There are plenty of games for their age. You also mention that they mainly just play Little Big Planet on PS4. So...

You can set it up on your tv and never use it as a portable system and nothing would queue you in on it not being a proper console.

I wouldn't be on the fence. Monster Hunter is an amazing series, and this one looks like something I've been waiting eons for. The beta did exactly what I would have wanted. It kept the controls and gameplay on par with the 3DS versions. In fact, I didn't even need to read what any of the buttons did, I just jumped in and started fighting exactly the same way I did on 3DS, using the same buttons and everything. Though i would never tell anyone not to wait because that is always the best policy, I feel pretty confident this is one of those times where waiting won't be necessary.
The game will have had 3 betas before launch and is already being praised. I played the last beta and it was solid. Great controls pulled straight from the 3DS games. It seemed bug free. And most importantly, it was fun.
The only thing that could hurt the game at launch is poor netcod...

There are too many people out there that did the same thing. Even though the perspective switched to first person, this game is Resident Evil through and through.
Its a shame that so many people refused to give it a try because it seems that most that did ended up loving it.

Yeah I know. Metroid and Zelda are my two favorite Nintendo franchises. I just havent had a Nintendi console since N64 and now the Switch. Old roommate had a Gamecube but I moved out many moons ago.
I don't think it would be crazy to hope they would port them over. Nintendo is kind of known for doing that with their older games. 3DS has pretty much every Zelda, Mario, and Metroid on their shop. So fingers crossed.
