Short answer: no. Experiment 101 has to do more work before it's worth a discount price.
spwittbold is being too uncharitable though.

-"He mentions flaws but then says he keeps coming back to those flaws."
I'm not sure what that means. I don't see why coming back to flaws should be considered a flaw. Anyways...
I don't get your Gamespot review comparison here too. You're giving a false impression as though he found a couple blemishes and this 6.5 came out of nowhere. You're either skimming ...
@Sunny
"That's how he started the review, that was his opening statement, and those hold the most value in a review."
I hate to bust out the "actually" line here, but you're wrong. You're just looking at the quoted description above, but that's not what he started out with. This is actually his 2nd paragraph, not his opening statement in the review. Again, this description is literally just a basic layout of Returnal...
Astro's Playroom is a good game. I'm sorry I had to tell you this.
This is a weird way of structuring the comment, but okay. I'll go with it.
1.) Sure. How does that even remotely apply here? It's not like Paul doesn't appreciate roguelikes or shooters, so this point is moot.
2.) Perfect. Then by the parameters provided by this site's score methodology, it seems like Paul passes that aside from your subjective lens of "honesty." The main point being: he never said it was trash and he beli...
@knightedHollow
"or presume I dont put any thought into what i said."
Can't help but presume when all the evidence points towards that.
For one, I don't think you can presume what "people" do or don't care about in respect to scores or adding half-points. Regardless, you argue past my broader point. It's still this immature No True Scotsman to draw this line in the sand about "no REAL gamers&qu...
-"Lol @flagrantly incorrect."
Considering you're now reciting parts I've gone over? Looks that way for you. I'm not sure why this is such a hard concept to follow: someone can observe that a certain type of game design, subgenre, etc. could be ripe for AAA meddling like MT's and lootboxes AND be happy those things didn't happen. Maybe you're genuinely missing the ultimate point there, but it's so easy to follow that I can't help ...
@Sunny12345
You're totally disregarding the context here. I'll do it point-by-point:
-The rareness of a big-budget AAA roguelike (esp. at $70 too).
-An observation of how odd that is, given the randomness COULD enable microtransactions.
-Is glad that Returnal doesn't take that route.
(Note: Notice how he NEVER says it should have been injected with MT's but is thankful that it's not. That's flagrantly i...
"It translates to a bad game, a game not worth anytime and a game badly made."
It shouldn't come off this easy for you to be this dishonest. You're just crafting a narrative that runs in DIRECT opposition to what's been stated to invalidate it. Stated words within the review & the site's review methodology contradict this "translation."
"A score like this for this game is clearly click bait...anyone who is an...
@Sunny12345
"it should have mts but it doesnt.. what?"
I'm going to ask you the same thing: what? That's not the point being made. That's terrible reading comprehension on your part.
"Since when does VGChartz write reviews anyway?"
Since 2008.
Although I've had great memories there as a kid, I can't disregard the frustration my parents felt with some of those late fees. That was probably the lion's share of their revenue back then.
@Eonjay
I get what you're trying to examine, but that's not how Qt3 has ever operated in respect to scores.
https://www.quartertothree....
Just so you know: Qt3's review methodology apes Netflix's old scoring system. A 1/5 translates to Tom Chick hating Biomutant, not that the game doesn't function.
@knightHollow
I can't speak for the pc port, but the game deserves more than that. Even though combat isn't an emphasis, it's a quality Silent Hill-lite in respect to subtext and atmosphere. It's between this and Observer being Bloober Team's best titles thus far.
The Medium is certainly not a pass, so I'm already questioning your sixth sense.
I know I'm late to the party here, but I'm not sure why the Ubisoft comparison netted you such ire. Like, it's literally one of the easiest descriptions one can make about its design ethos.
Okay, so just replace "not playing" with "not commenting" and we're on the same wavelength. Your point isn't that complex, it's just making odd leaps in logic. Another valid reason you may not see many comments on reviews is they - frankly - don't often get comment traction when falling within the critic score average. Contrast that to opinion articles regarding Sony axing PSP/Vita/PS3 digital storefronts? That's naturally bound to attract controver...
You're trying to join to disparate things though. You can still dislike the Vita store closure news and not play everything good that's releasing on it. This game is available for PS4 & PS5 too.
Have you even played Chicory?
