Very good discussion. I'm still hesitant in presuming any bias on Edge since I'm ignorant when it comes to inFamous 2, but you certainly put up a well-made arguement against their review tactics.
You're basically the first poster on here that has comprehensively stated flaws in a review by looking at the written material; and I've been asking n4g users to post that for a looonnnng time. Major bubbles for that :)
Fair enough (unlike the plethora of fanboys here). After stating my last point a dozen times, someone finally points out the WRITTEN portion that could be wrong rather than focusing solely on the score. Allow me to respond to your criticism with an "empirical eye" (teacher came up with that statement):
"They called Prototype a 'far superior game'".
I see almost all posters state X game is far superior to Y game. What makes i...
If you look at it from a completely biased standpoint.
"bad AND terrible" ?
That doesn't sound good :P
Sure most professionals will discuss pros and cons, but that doesn't mean that a singular reviewer is going to conform to the opinion of the group. I'm sure Roger Ebert, Malkin, etc. will constantly discuss recent releases with their newspaper editor(s) and fellow critics alike; that doesn't mean you'll see their opinions change on a dime in order to follow the "mob mentality" of the rest of the reviewers.
For crying out loud, Ebert has constantly...
Yeah, you can really tell with those 1 bubbl...oh wait :P. Seriously though, jk I've heard complaints of losing bubbles unfairly so I don't really want to generalize.
You guys do realize the 2 scores mentioned (inFamous 2 + Hunter: DF) are given by 2 different reviewers, right?
Much needed blog imo. Personally, I see the COD hate as a personification of how stagnant the FPS genre has become. Since CoD's the poster child of the FPS' genre, it receives the most hate.
I'm not saying FPS can't do anything new, I'm only saying hardly any of the recent FPS releases have brought that next innovation. The ones doing better in innovation imo are RPGs, TPS, and yes even motion-based games. I believe the last major innovation to FPS...

You were just defending opinions in Edge's inFamous 2 review. Why act like such a hypocrite when it comes to this poster's views?
No, one thing does not have to do with the other. If the content within the game is on the same engine you then have the definition of "same content". Example: Crackdown 2 can be slighted by reviewers for "same content" since it's the same city (although plauged by destruction in some areas).
An update? Don't be absurd. If you're going to slant blops, at least make it a legitimate complaint. How can a completely new story fall under the ...
No, by safe iteration I mean sequel that brings new ideas to the table but nothing that goes far beyond the established comfort zone. Black Ops has so much new content.
Same content =/= same formula, you and many others need to recognize that.
@Velcry
That's only objectively stating one thing: Edge's review scores, on average, are lower than what metacritic averages for PS3 exclusives. That should not be a determinant for bias by any sane person. IF, however, you go after the related score AND facets pointed out in the review to be completely false, THEN you can reach a point that a certain reviewer (singular, mind you) is bias against PS3 exclusives. And with that comes the questioning the integrity of ...
Hmmm...perhaps Gears 2 was longer than I remember. I'm just used to being bombarded with false campaign lengths given by devs. The only length consistency I can recall from both devs and gamers alike is *enter JRPG here* and the inFamous series.
How's that trolling?
@Brutallyhonest
I just said go after the "definitive fallacies" of this guy's/gal's review! If there are faults found within it, quote them, and question the reviewer's credibility on the subject.
Half of the n4g users are just assaulting Edge b/c of giving certain 360 exclusives a score above their metacritic average. What do you believe is worse: a reviewer not finding a title to be of the quality you think it to be (ie differing op...
"...suggested it would be closer to 12, by saying the game would have 'at least a few hours' more gameplay than its predecessors."
As much as I would like to believe that, I just can't atm. Too many times this gen have devs stretched their game's campaign length. Don't care that much though, so long as it's 10/10 quality :).
Good thing I got the "o" word out before it came to the front page :P.
*Sigh* It's still someone's opinion. Assault the definitive fallacies (if any) stated in the review, not the compare/contrast different reviews by different people.
I ought to slap you through your computer :P. I don't find it to be "gorgeous" as the title says, but it does not look pretty average by any regard imo.
^ Did you miss the "...became standard for shooters..." part? b/c that's when the major influx for those began.
That seems like a rash conclusion if you ask me. Of course, the reviews have to follow a certain guideline; but to assume that they're in some underground bunker planning out review scores like a "hive mind" just doesn't seem logical imo.
I have been wrong before however.
