Gotta admit that's an interesting way of looking at it too.
There's definately a good number of them that have risen to occassion.
Honestly, the more I see him bring this up, more I begin to think he has some strange writer's complex by believing "if I'm not doing better than movies, that means no else is." That may just be me, but the more I've seen his attitude on this over the years the more I tend to suspect that being the case.
Absolutely not, man. I can't say where it lands when it comes to my favorite AC (only jumped into 1+2 and plan go through series this year), but I was blown away by it. AC1 falls in that strange category of me liking so much of it but also giving a reserved recommendation b/c I have to acknowledge the repetition complaints around a lot of stuff.
It certainly has a stumbling block like that, but it fades overtime when I was sucked into everything else: the new ip feelin...
That's definately a bit worrisome. I suspect Ubi' tactics might be similar to AC1's at the time. I distinctly recall some journos saying they were give an okay to break embargo IF they wanted to give it a 9/10 or higher score for AC1. That's what resulted in such swing from beginning meta to final meta on there.
I still enjoy that game from beginning to end, but still...that's just unfair pub tactics that just annoy the consumer in the long run.

"I dunno, Pacific Rim had some preeeetty big robots... Something for gaming to aspire to I guess."
We can only hope for games to render such awe-inspiring CGI, and thus more emotion.
I thought embargo was May 20th for this.

I wonder who else remembers that Warren Specter piece back in the day.
On it's own, a review score is just a number. Not I'd call poisonous.
So really...the whole problem you have lies in the semantics of their response? Seriously?
By most definitions of what I've seen for "social commentary," that's technically a plain word to use on the subject. Using the means of fiction to provide commentary on issues in society. In the same video where you mention 17 states of 50 in the US legalizing same-sex marriage, such terminology that Ninty used doesn't suggest that 'otherness' angle. ...

"If this is how you feel bout Drakes Fortune you're gonna HATE Uncharted 3."
Heh...actually I came away enjoying that one the most after playing through it the first time. The spongy-ness of enemies didn't seem that bad (unless they were equipped with an insane amount of armor) and the design felt a bit improved.
I'm a bit worried if I was just looking at it with glazed eyes though, but so far UC1 + 2 are the s...
Nah, she just pretending her outhouse counts as a secret lair.
Kind of like it's at that tipping point (I lol'd at the random bald guy). But I'll take it over generic pose with brandished gun any day.
Depends on how many alts you decide to make this month. [o_o]~
Certainly. A few minor grammar problems never really killed anyone's chance of winning the review/blog contests.

The last paragraph in that blog describes Cat + cgood's judging criteria.
How modest.

Gimme' everything, Cat! XD
WTF are you talking about? The team's been adamant about FUSE's changes being a result of an over-reliance on focus groups during development, not someone behind the curtain conspiratorial deal MS made so the ideas could be scrapped (as if somehow original Overstrike and Sunset Overdrive couldn't exist together without that happening for some reason). Ted Price even said that "Fuse is actually the least changed of all of our IPs."

I really enjoyed SWTOR.
That one felt like such as disappointment compared to Jedi Knight II, both in story and design.
Had fun in MP before Original XBL got the axe, though.
Wow. That's a pretty cool way to get into open world games.
The combat as well, but the repetitive aspect that was the most annoying for me was the side missions that lead up to an assassination. It does make sense contextually (gathering info on a target), but starting wearing on me towards the end. That's a good way to look at the combat, too.
Hopefully I'll take advantage of an opportunity in the near future to just sit down and catch up o...
