As is the usual, I haven't had a chance to play all I'd like that came out during 2014, especially certain PS4, Wii U, and PC games since I either don't own some of those systems or other unfortunate real-life events that prevented me from playing on that certain for most of the year.

The former. Remember that we're talking about the nominations at this stage. It's intended to act as your opportunity to bring up what you're most excited about and see if that makes the cut for when we make the official list.
I must disagree with #1 to a certain extent. Early access is one thing, but it stinks for titles like The Wolf Among Us to be dropped out entirely just because the first of five episodes came out last year. And what happens if a great new character appears in Tales of the Borderlands during 2015? Is he/she out of the race then?
I don't know...I think we may need to evaluate more on a case-by-case basis. Maybe have a new category for Best/Most Promising Early Access Ga...
Shoot! Can't believe that one didn't cross my mind when thinking of new nominations. Alien: Isolation would essentially be a shoe-in for that.

That's such a strange line of thinking to me. For starters, the assumption that a mass of people can't get very far with our governments, most of which have some form of a democracy in them. That kind of assumption, even if we're just talking about people banding on the internet, seems rather extraordin...
You're definitely not the only one with those sentiments. It's become white noise at this point with hyperbole and "us vs. them" viewpoints that poison what is otherwise fair point to bring to the table, even if there's bigger things to worry about (like their always will be whenever anyone tries discussing geek culture or the like).

Haven't gotten around to playing much of ICO beyond the first 10-15 mins (around the time phat PS3 broke). Would be great for my friend to fork over our new Ps3 in the future so I can go through the ICO + SotC HD Collection, among some other games.
Thanks, Dark. A little on the short side is definitely a good way to term it. Unlike the Left Behind DLC, I didn't feel this should get any kind of consumerist warning for this when it was all said and done. The amount of time felt meaty enough, and had some fun easter eggs, for the price it was asking and the variety of mechanical ideas were quite diverse.
The time complaint just couldn't really stick for me.
Was going to say they are only half right. I think both are great titles with interesting ambitions.

So...yeah...bringing out that almighty ten again. While they've had their ups and downs, I have to consider Starbreeze Studios in my favorite developer category for having their name behind this. Like Bioware, they have two entries that top all-time favorites for me. The other being Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay.

There's a difference between that little box [HDTV 720p/1080i/1080p] notifying you that the game can be upscaled vs. an official Playstation blog lying to potential customers about Shadowfall's multiplayer running natively at 1080p.
Here's something that's the problem with that counter: the content found within a game's code didn't get there by osmosis. Every original file, line of dialouge, etc. was put in there and approved of by a human or group of humans, and with that means their own beliefs, philosophies, life experiences, etc. that fuel their imaginations are intrinsically in the game.
Unless suggested otherwise, someone saying that a film, game, book, etc. is sexist doesn't...
