First of all, just because Alaska is closer doesn't mean Canada isn't in close proximity to Soviet Russia.

Second, I ain't American, but I sure respect the foundations that the USA is built on.

Sorry, the personal attacks failed, guys.

How precious!

I have to admit, I would never have bought a ps3 slim, if it weren't for the bluray-movie-player ability.

Thus, the trend of bluray adoption is pleasing.
However, we must not forget that, after 4 years of bluray availability, DVD is STILL dominating Bluray.
As at March 28 2010, bluray has only garnered 16% of the total market.

I wonder what will happen if Crysis on consoles looks better than all exclusives on ps3, yet runs just a little better on 360?

@^^^

They'd obviously retain the hardware, but issue a firmware update to stop you using what you had already paid for.

Sound familiar?

... if this was Sony, they'd simply remove Natal in the next system update.

You know it's true.

I'll collect that money off you then, shall I?

5765d ago 0 agree14 disagreeView comment

Actually, Sony DID promise backwards compatibility
What's more, Sony was advertising this as a feature which the 360 would not have!

Even worse, Ken Kutaragi stated that the ps3 would retain the ps2 b/c forever!

Guess it's time to eat your own words, guys.
Hey, you might even apologise to me, because as it turns out, I was right.

and don't forget, the ps3 also had linux from day one to this present day!
In addition, let's not forget tat SOny promised us ps2 backwards compatibility - something that has been retained to this present day also.

oh wait.

Well, I guess the ps3 hacking floodgates have opened.

You can blame geohotz all you want.
You can watch Sony remove additional features.
It won't matter.

Not saying I agree with the ethics involved.
Just saying.

;)

No actually, the article has completely missed the point.

What is not being understood, is that Sony gained a marketing advantage by advertising features that undoubtedly were used by savvy consumers in weighing the pros and cons of an important purchasing decision.

The inclusion of Linux was a 'unique selling point' used by Sony to capture additional marketshare.

Unfortunately, Sony chose to remove this feature from Units that have already been so...

Quite honestly, Sony is going downhill fast.

They launch an advertising campaign to the tune of 'It only does everything', yet consumers are left wanting after removal of features such as 'linux' and backwards compatibility with ps2 games.

Lawyers are currently being consulted about a class action lawsuit with regard to the removal of linux on fat ps3s, as consumers were misled by false advertising in that regard.

Added to that, the slogan 'it only...

I have to agree with Cold at 1.0

MS looks the business with its Natal thing:
- Natal will be bundled with existing 360 skus
- Natal will be an effective re-launch of the 360
- Natal is rumoured to coincide with a slim 360
- Natal is rumoured to be very affordable
- Natal is bound to be marketed well by MS, as they have too much to lose otherwise

I hesitate to listen to any of the failed financial analysts on n4g, or elsewhere, who doubt ...

@ Gradient

Well, sure, Sony can do whatever they want with their product - until people buy that product based on an advertised feature set.

Any court and jury will be able to deduce that Sony gained a marketing advantage by advertising the PS3 as 'linux capable'.

Any court and jury will be able to deduce that SOny was able to garner additional sales based on this feature alone.

The fact that it has been removed after the point of sale const...

@ oner

LOL!

I can scarcely believe the self-delusion you exhibit, my dear gaming friend.
You didn't 'call', 'own', or 'put into place' anyone or anything.

All you did was show what a petty, small minded gimp you really are.
Honestly, if there were truly winners on teh internetz you would lose merely by showing up.

Fact is, Sony went from astounding and unbeatable first, to dead last in one gen. The ps3 sales are falling woefully ...

gotta agree with vulcan.

The 470/480 series are simply too hot and they draw too much power.
If people think furmark is an inaccurate test of real-world power draw, then wait for the next crysis game, or any of the other upcoming directx11 games.

Those new games will draw more power and thus heat up the nvidia cards like no game available today.

Yep, this lawsuit will stick.

I have perused the TOU and I have looked at the consumer laws.
Sony has no defence.

Some are arguing that SOny is merely reacting to a security threat, by removing the OS. Unfortunately this holds no water.

The security concern should be addressed by SOny via software security updates while retaining the features of the original sale.

This will be very interesting!
Lawyers will be swarming in no time...
