I am honoured to receive PS3 fanboy rage and inappropriate moderation

I can't believe the self delusion in the comments above.

In every single screenshot, the ps3 is showing blurry quincunx aa problems. In some screenshots, the ps3 is significantly missing textures and objects. The ps3 shadows are rendered worse and according to Mazingerdude, there is ps3 framerate issues, as well as shadow and object pop-in on ps3.

Mazingerdude goes on to say this is one of the worst ports ever, and based on the evidence presented so far, ...

wrong, bathyj.

Bundling a ps3 with a bravia is essentially a ps3 giveaway.

Bravias are not cheap.
Customers who spend $2000 on a TV got the ps3 as a give-away bluray player.
Essentially, a ps3 giveaway, as an incentive to spend money on an expensive top-shelf Sony TV.

Spin it all you want.
Fact is, the 360 did NOT offer such a deal, while Bravia owners got a free ps3.

IT is simply foolish to discount 1...

I partly agree
DVDs are dirt cheap. A burnable DVD costs <5 cents.

Blurays are, in comparison expensive.

In time, though, Blurays will become dirtcheap too.
I am predicting that this will start to happen when world internet speeds make physical mediums redundant.

I already have a steam account and most of my music resides on my hdd.
The CDs are sitting in the garage, collecting dust.
Thus the trend has alre...

Macs can run Windows?
Sure, but when they run Windows, they are not MACs anymore - they are PCs.

Conversely, the nice thing about PCs is that they don't need to run MacOS.

I agree MACs are not bad computers, it's just that when it comes down to it, they don't do anything better. Except for battery life on macbooks, granted.

Yeah, thanks, I was wondering about that.

I have to say it is disappointing that he was forced NOT to update to retain the linux functionality.
In order to perform the feat of running linux with xbmc he is now unable to use his ps3 to its full potential.
Thanks a lot, Sony.
Hopefully, the class action lawsuits will sort this injustice out.

Makes me sad.
Especially when we have proof Sony did, in fact, advertise Linux as part o...

You guys are spot on.

Some of the Sony fanboys on here carry on like anything negative at all about Sony is akin to a violation of their human rights.

It's time for people on here to let go of their allegiance to the Sony-religion. It's well and good to enjoy the ps3, but some people on here have really lost the plot with their Sony victimisation defence and conspiracy theories.

Honestly. It's beyond a joke.

Yes, apparently you are missing something.

The proof, so to speak, is found in the Reuters link in the article.
Apparently they analysis says the ps3 is making profits since march.
The FY 2009 drop in profitability covers the period mainly before that.

Problem is, the link is in Japanese.
I can't read it myself, but presumably it's true.

If you check my posting history I have always maintained that the slim was...

The financial report really tells the story with regard to the gaming division.

On page 10 of the FY 2009 report, Sony states:

"Game: Despite PS3 hardware cost reductions and increased unit
sales of PS3 software, profitability deteriorated primarily due to
lower unit sales of PS2 software and of PSP hardware"
http://www.sony.net/SonyInf.....

@ GVON

Well that's not very helpful is it?

If what you say is true, and the ps3 is only just starting to make profits at $299, then a price cut would, once again, make the ps3 a net loss on every unit sold.
Did you consider that reputable sources indicate that the ps3 accumulated loss stands at $4.7billion+ as we speak?
The ps3 is *required* to generate profits, as of right now, that much is clear.

In addition, if a second...

Great news for SOny indeed.

MS has stated some time ago that their numbers sold were at 40.2 million sold. http://www.microsoft.com/ms...

Now that Sony has announced 35.7 million sold, the gap stands at 4.5 million.

While this is no surprise, we have to congratulate Sony for closing the gap. ...

BUBBLES for Luzce!

You sir, have hit the nail on the head.
The law exists to protect consumers in this case and those people are exactly the people that need protecting from Sony, in this case.

Sony has sought to protect its bottom line, by discriminating against a minority of ps3 users.

Of course, Sony didn't mind at all that those same users bolstered its coffers with additional ps3 purchases at the time that Linux was being to...

This article misses the point, entirely.

The gaming market is HUGE!
Companies are falling over each other to secure marketshare.
The idea that this lawsuit will somehow stop companies from innovating is probably the biggest load of codswallop I have heard on this site.

The lawsuit being brought against Sony, will serve to protect minority consumers from being steamrolled by a Conglomerate's (Sony, in this case) profit agenda.

YEah it is an interesting issue.

The thing is, we all know that SOny cannot afford a price cut on the ps3 just now. They are only JUST starting to make profits on their hardware (or breaking even overall, worst case). Not only that, but they have to start generating profits to recoup the $4.7 billion accumulated loss on the ps3 so far.
A ps3 price drop? no way.

On the other hand, is the 360 positioned any better?
We don't know exactly how ...

@ bunfighter

The 4.7billion and 5.2 billion figures are referring to accumulated losses that Sony has incurred on the ps3 until now.

Kudos to you for attempting some damage control.
It may be true that the ps3 is poised to post operating profits in the next quarterly report overall, but tha...

@ e46m3

Yeah dude, don't forget that the $4.7 billion loss applies to the ps3 exclusively.

This latest $440 mill loss, however, is over the whole company.

Thus we might expect the gaming division to start making profits soon, if they are not already.

Still, Sony likes to bury those ugly ps3 loss numbers in their balance sheet where average investors can't get at 'em.
Sneaky.

5731d ago 0 agree3 disagreeView comment

Yeah, I agree, I would not call this good at all.

I had thought the loss for ps3 stood at $4.7 billion?
That 5.2 billion figure, where did you get that from?

It just makes me wonder how Kaz Hirai was stating that the ps3 was making overall profits, yet every quarter the ps3 losses rise?

So does that mean Sony has been losing money on the slim overall since release?

The evidence would certainly indicate this.
