The PS3 is not backward compatible with PS2 games anymore so lets all move on. I would rather they take the cream of the PS2 gaming crop and enhance it for PS3 playback, e.g. God Of War.

...was awful on RE5, especially when playing alone. To me, you should not have had to put up with a side character in single player mode and that going through it in co-op mode (with another person controlling the other player) should have changed the gameplay.

The gameplay also felt stale and the boss battle at the end of chapter 2 (i.e. you and you companion in a truck shooting some giant guy who goes through some pre-scripted moves) was simply pathetic. Enemies in general had no damage model which is so last gen. Just look at the fantastic damage model in Dead Space!

The Wii has been a remarkable success supposedly due in part to opening up casual gaming to a whole new audience. However, will that same audience upgrade/migrate to whatever comes next? Does the majority of the current Wii audience actually care about HD graphics, higher poly counts and 7.1 audio? If they did, would they have purchased the Wii in the first place?

None of those games featured much more than run-and-gun mentality to play. Sure you can play as a team and succeed but how often does that happen with a bunch of strangers.

I use a program called MKVtoAVI (I think that's what its called. Takes about 2 minutes to convert an MKV file into a format that is supported by the PS3.

No significant functionality was released in 3.0, it was just an interface overhaul that the majority seems to dislike.
...buy this game is a price cut. In New Zealand they are asking $30. Thats $10 more than I'd be willing to pay.
I would also love the following:
- Modify the new friends list, replace the grey boxes with glass ones so you can see through them. Make them look like the boxes they use in the PS Store for example.
- Use a similar effect for the information bar at the top right of the screen. That simple white boarder makes a great function look cheap.
- Throw in a better web browser!
- Internet Radio - maybe this could be integrated with your dedicated music player idea. <...

On another note, I wish they had thrown in Internet Radio, a new browser and maybe Skype to make it feel like a substantial upgrade to 3.0! As it stands, 3.0 feels more like it should have been a 2.85.
...schedule the download to occur. I'm on a bandwidth plan where I get as much, unthrottled, use between 1am and 7am. I am not a fan of getting up at 1am just to kick off some of those 1GB+ downloads!

PS3 slim will no doubt have an impact in next weeks figures but its also good to see the 360 move above the 10k mark.
RE5 graphics looked great but were totally gimped. Clipping issues, you couldn't walk through bushes and those you could walk through did not react at all. The water effects again were last gen, sure they looked good but when you interacted with the water the splash/ripple effect was laughable.
RE5 game graphics were far too scripted. You could only open doors or smash windows that they wanted you to. Play the game 50 times it will be the same experience 50 times.

...if it comes out at $100 NZD then I'll pass. The games are great but I have played them to death on the PS2 so other than the "oh that looks so good now" aspect of the revamp there is little incentive for me to play through them again.
Yes, I know it will have trophy support but I just never got into the whole trophy scene as motivation to play through a game again.
If however they come in at around $60-$70 NZD then it will be a day 1 purchase.

Is it good that firmware updates are free? yes.
If you had to pay for 3.0 would you? No, I would have waited for the next one.
Biggest disappointment for me was that the speed of the XMB has not been changed when you access it in-game. You're still waiting for icons to appear...it just feels so sluggish!
